Yashica is an empty shell since Kyocera killed off the whole Contax / Yashica line -- just a front to sell super-cheap wares with a "brand name" that people recognize -- similar thing is happening with Rollei, Bell & Howell, Vivitar and countless others...

I got it last week, nothing to write home about. The initial excitement of the idea of trying to shove an LTM lens into it wore off coz frankly, I don't want to waste time on it
I should just forget the idea of playing around with silly cameras because i've got enough serious ones to have fun with.
No disrespect to those who have and like it, I was just as excited about the idea when I preordered it but after 2 day, 2 dozens of silly shots and a set of dead batteries I can't be bothered. C'mon, how can I ever put it in my pocket when in the same caliber I've got Contax T2, Rollei 35, Smena, Agat 18 and something else I probably forgot. Is it any better than any of the above cameras? Hell no! Sorry "Yashica".

Phantomas, approach it as a tOy it is something to have fun with, be creative, experiment with it...dont take it so seriously, I have fancy cameras also but by playing with this tOy I have developed some new ideas I will transfer over to "Real Cameras"...
I agree it loves batteries but I will pay that price to break out of the BOX...
check out some of what I did here http://www.flickr.com/photos/photonytexas/
It may be a bit wacked out for most but I am having fun, more-2-come-soon
;-)

photony - I get your point, as a matter of fact I believe we were both defending that point against nay-sayers just a week ago
Your photos are nice and more power to ya! My "problem" is that after playing around with Yashica for two days I put it into perspective - do I want to give it a chance? Yes. Will I? No. Because in the comparable caliber I have those 5 cameras above that I know my hand will be first to grab if I'm heading to "toy around". Priorities.
That Yashica definitely has it's place, but not with me.
Not to offend this camera too much - I'm taking the same exact approach for example with the R-D1 I bought a couple of months ago and is now waiting to be up for sell only after a couple of dozens of shots, because when I'm heading out to do some rangefindering my hand is first to grab Bessa R3A, or Hexar RF, or Contax G1, or etc. R-D1 is a nice camera, but for me impossible to give priority over those other ones.
Priorities.

Oh yeah, about the video, here's something positive - while playing around I noticed you could *gasp* pause the video during recording and then resume. Last time i checked I don't remember such function being common on P&S digicams (?) I might be wrong, can't say I spend too much time with P&S digicams and video functions.

is that sort of like editing in camera? i assume when it is paused the video is not frozen on playback where it is paused
