My daughter's bf, about 17 or 18, asked her why she just didn't upload photos from the computer onto my Minolta X-700 to complete her photography class assignment. God's honest truth.

You explained him X-series are made for exposing film for x-processing only, and your D-700, allowing "uploading images", is currently shelved?

The X700 is one of my favorite SLRs. Whenever I used to shoot with my RB67, X700, Autoreflex T3n, etc, my kids always rushed to my side to look at the back of the camera to see their photo. They're old enough now that they realize dad is using one of his "old cameras."

Haha! Yeah, gotta love those moments when you take a picture with an old analog and people rush to you “can I see, can I see?!”

Or alternately they wonder why you keep peering at the back of an old Leica rangefinder when you're shooting your M8! :D

Because that would be some kind of plagarism? And your kid doesn't cheat?
I'm guessing the bf is not taking that class.

On the other side of the coin, I spotted a power winder in a bargain bin at a local camera store (one of the last remaining stores in town) and asked what camera it was for. The guy behind the counter didn't even know what it was. I told him 'power winder' and got a blank stare in return. He never heard of one. I suppose there is no reason he would have, he was under 30.

This is the moment when I know I ought to spend less time on the net amongst you geeks and meet some real people. Don't you realize the bf is the normal one and you are the geek? You expect everybody to be fluent about cameras and then laugh at this poor sucker behind his back to strangers you likely have never met? This is like me going to a Trekkie convention and not knowing the names of Spock's dog and get laughed at about it on a forum like this. Adios amigos.

Might I suggest you up your meds just a tad?

I'll admit to "geek-ness" (geekosity? whichever) but I think the bf is a bit of a bonehead NOT because of his ignorance about the camera but because he is apparently encouraging the daughter to not shoot some photos for her assignment. At best to use her own, previous, work. At worst to use some one else's. I made fun of him not for a presumed lack of technical knowledge but for an evident lack of character. Absolutely un-fair of me since I don't know him.

Yep ... far better off to mingle with the mainstream. People who are different and like to be out of the loop so to speak, are so dangerous to conservative thought! :p
