Diluted my HC-110: Bad idea?

I decided to use HC-110 just to try something different (I usually use Rodinal and D-76).

I was about to use the syrup straight from the bottle when my girlfriend pointed out that the instructions said to dilute the syrup to make a stock solution (who reads instructions?!)

So, I faithfully made a stock solution, then I concluded that almost all of the postings and websites I see talk about dilutions that are clearly straight from syrup. I can caculate how much stock developer makes up each dilution quite easily, but should I really have just left the HC-110 as syrup? I guess it would last longer that way...

You can still use the stock solution (something like 1:3 for dil B?) but its shelf life will be much reduced. The advantage of leaving it as syrup is Rodinal-like shelf life and custom dilutions. Just use it up fast (6 months?) and you'll be fine 😀

I regularly use HC-110 (dilution B) with Tri-X, Acros 100. Dilution from stock is not a problem.

8ml syrup bring to ==> 250ml working solution (for 1 roll of 35mm) one-shot

16ml syrup bring to ==> 500ml working solution (for 1 roll of 120mm) one-shot

Syrup lasts forever and you never have to worry about quality if you use it as a one-shot (dil B). Development times at www.digitaltruth.com . Good luck.

One tip for your future dealings with HC-110 concentrate: those 10-12cc medicine syringes that you get for free from the grocery store pharmacy are worlds easier to deal with than trying to pour it into a graduated cylinder. Just ask for one! 🙂
