This is probably not the correct forum to post this question in, but I'll bet someone here will be able to answer it, or at the very least steer me in the right direction.
I recently got a CV 21 f4 which I'm using on my S3. Lack of rangefinder experience, and big hands has resulted in many shots with my right hand fingers in the foreground. One solution is of course a bigger lens hood a la CV Leica 21 f4.
But alas, there ain't no such animal for the SC version and apparantly the Leica version is not compatible.
Being the very handly lad that I am, the answer is of course, to make my own, but I need some specs:
The dimensions of the shade at the "wide" square end,
and the vertical dimension of the shade from where it attaches to the lens to the wide, square end (in other words its back to front length).
Can anyone supply these, or steer me to where I can get them?
Please and thank you.

The problem of using a square lens-hood on the 21 VC is that it is a rotating mount. You will end up with the hood going every which way!
I did find an old 43mm hood with a tapered "funnel" shape and turned it down in my lathe until it did not vignett. Look on E-bay or in local stores for generic 43 hoods - they are usually quite cheap and then either turn it down or simply (and crudely) hack saw of excess shape of the funnel shape.
Having fingers and knuckles show up is something that occasionally adds mystery to the shot, but mostly aggravates. The 21 S-mount is a short lens and I find that if you grip it from the bottom of the lens and turn it that way, there is less chance of this happening.

Tom,
Thanks for the help. I'll look for a hood, and play around with it.
I actually considered making one out of thick card stock and then varnishing it to give it extra strength.
there are many ways to skin the cat.

It looks like there is a very shallow shade on both lenses?
Does yours have that?
What is the filter size?
I am sure there are alternatives being produced in Japan?

Cameraquest?

I agree with the idea of using the focus wheel. The CV lenses turn so smoothly that they're a real joy to use with the focus wheel.

The only reason I want a shade is to act as a barrier to keep my fingers away from the front of the lens. As for focusing, if I do make something up, I may just perforate it with enough drilled holes to allow me to always "see" through it. Alternately, if I make something up out of acrylic or polycarbonate, It would be easy enough to use clear, transparent plastic, and then just spray everything black except for a band where the shade sits in front of the rangefinder windows.
This isn't rocket science. And I've fabricated much more challenging photo-chatkas before. Both my motorized F2AS and motorized FA have home-made wrist straps with custom-made base plates, that I've used for almost ten years without any problems. Where there's a will there's a way.

I think our intent was that you can keep your fingers away from the front of the lens if you focus with the wheel. Then you can use your left hand to steady the edge of the camera, with your fingers grasping the camera and nowhere near the lens.

I take pictures of my fingers when I'm using the left hand to focus and unintentionally curl fingers in front of the lens.
