I'd read that the R2/3 series cameras took a diopter from an old Nikon model as well as the ones available from Bessa?
Can someone verify that for me?

Also, how do you know what diopter you ned? On my dslr, I just click it till it looks right. If I have to buy various screw on diopter strengths, am I stuck with trial and error?

You could try on the cheap reading glasses in the pharmacist until you find the right strength.

I've got a pair of those. Is that an equivalent?
My +2 glasses for +2 diopter?

What about - diopters? What are they for then?

Negative diopters are for us short sighted folk. My prescription is about -6. This does mean I can focus down to about 10cm without my glasses. I have to remember not to do this when soldering anything 😱
The eyesight correction lenses are only doing the same job as your glasses to modify your sight so it should put you in the right range.

The diopters for the FM-10 will work and possible the FM-2 and 3 series, but I'm not sure. Some of the others from the D series and F3HP are too big.

The designed viewing distance through most viewfinders is about one meter or three feet, so when you try the glasses at the local drug store, look at an object about one meter away.

I think. Don't quote me.
