Direct upgrade of X-pro1 from 1.0 to 3.30

So, finally got myself an X-pro1!

Good price, about half a year old - but the firmware is 1.0? Might have been lying around in the shop for a while before being sold?

Anyway, I do find few complaints when googling for bricking etc - except one post claiming that there was a 40% return-rate at the start due to bricking while upgrading...

Are there any problems upgrading this? And should I take it in steps, perhaps going from 1.0 to 2.0 first?

Kind of important to not do the wrong thing when it is second-hand and due to follow me to the Canaries early this Monday...

Interesting situation.
I've never had any trouble with FW updates. Actually they have been easier than expected.
In your case and the concern for bricking out a camera... maybe give a quick call to Fuji NJ on Monday.
I have spoken with folks there a couple times over the years (inclucing a return for repair that was very quick and smooth).
Good crew there. Friendly and quite up to the minute on their products and how to service them.

Maybe... Only problem is that as I live in Norway I would have to call in later in the day.

My impression is that it is problem-free, there are very few hits for serious trouble when I google it 🙂

The firmware upgrades are straightforward with a couple of caveats.

First, Fujifilm does not use common sense with firmware upgrade file names. They reuse filenames which causes all sorts of confusion and errors. You must organize the upgrades yourself. Most of the troubles come from people installing the wrong firmware because they don't organize or maintain their download folder. The solution is simple. Just make a folder for upgrades and use subfolders for each upgrade. It is ridiculous users have to do this in 2014.

Second, OS X users can not delete SDHC card contents using the Finder. When the Finder writes to the SDHC card an invisible (to OS X;s GUI) file is placed on the card. This file crashes the firmware update. OS X users should only erase cards using the in-camera Format command. Again, this an absurd oversight on Fujifilm's part.

Now the 18 2.0 is next for firmware update, other than that I will be using really old Nikon glass for a small job tonight 🙂
