Dirt on sensor?

Hi all,

Just made a test with a somewhat old R-D1 of a friend. When making pictures with f stop down, there appear spots in the picture; spots are the same when using different lenses, so we think there may be something wrong with the sensor. Is it dirt/dust or is the sensor worn out?

Hi Ron ... looks just like my M8 ... dirty sensor OK.

I just bought a sensor cleaning kit for my M8 off eBay for around $28.00 Australian from a company in England ... the digital camera specialists here wanted anything up to $90.00 and the cheapest one I was able to find locally was around $60.00. Just type sensor cleaning kit into an eBay search and there's plenty out there ... just be sure to get the correct kit for the Epson's sensor size. Cleaning is no big deal in spite of all the angst it creates at the prospect of messing around with something so delicate and obviously expensive to replace if damaged!

i bought my camera used and had dust on the sensor from day one. i was lucky enough to be in L.A. at the time, and took it to Steve's Camera for a check up and cleaning. no problems since.

Just learn to clean the sensor, no big deal.

Anyone shooting digital cameras with interchangeable lenses is going to have to learn to clean their sensor.

Hey folks, just acquired an R-D1s on the weekend along with a few Voigtlander lenses - but there's a bit of dust there I'll need to deal with. Not a problem, I've got a Sensor Swab & brush kit from my Canons, but what exactly do you do to prop the shutter open on the Epson? I haven't found a sensor cleaning mode yet - is it a question of putting it in Bulb and holding the button down? Is there a time limit on that, before it comes crashing down - or have I just missed something in the menus?

Just wonder what size of cleaning swab works? I just made a mistake by gently touching the sensor with tissue paper to pick up a big piece of dirt......as a result, leaving many small filaments on the sensor...... :bang:

Also will be great if someone can advise me if I shall use dry or wet method. I haven't done it before.
