Discontinued Leica lenses?

I might be late to the party, but it looks like the following lenses fell of Leica's website today:

50mm f/2.8
75mm f/1.4
90mm f/2.8
Tri-Elmar

All of these discontinuations were predicted here on RFF, so the rumor mill is working well.

Interesting that the Macro Elmar wasn't killed off, but I suppose there has to be something in that focal length that isn't huge.

I can understand them discontinuing the 50/2.8 and 90/2.8 now that the new Summarits are out but replacing the 75/1.4 with a 75/2.5? Can't really see the point of that except that 3 75mm lenses might be one too many.

Duh, I didn't have the Summarits in mind when I wrote about the 90mm lineup.

There has been speculation of a 75/1.4 asph in the works.....i suppose we shall see what October brings....

I think there might be a new version of the 75 lux most likely a bit smaller and cheaper, remember the old design was more than 20 years old. Lens design has improved quite a bit since then...

I'd agree the 75/1.4 will be back. That was a very old design.

That's a shame about the 50 and 90 2.8's. I have both and they are spectacular lenses. Just bought the 50 here a couple weeks ago and it is a very sweet, small discreet lens.

It is a shame, especially about the 50mm Elmar-M. A tremendous lens that has only recently been recognized for it's excellence. This lens goes back to the beginnings of Leica, I'm surprised they're cutting it.

I never liked the 90/2.8 much, but the Elmar-M is a winner no doubt.

Exactly. I'm sure the new 50/2.5 is a nice lens and all, but it just seems somehow wrong that they have no collapsible 50 in their line-up. Also (and it may be wishful thinking or imagination) there just seems to be a subtle "look" to photos taken with 4-element designs. The Elmar-M has that and the advantages of up-to-date optical design methods. Anyway, I'm glad I have mine.

The Summilux 75/1.4 was discontinued after the introduction of the Summicron Apo 75/2.
The Elmar 50/2.8 and the Tele Elmarit 90/2.8 was discontinued after the introduction of the Summarit M 50/2.5 and 90/2.5.
The Tri Elmar 28-35-50/4 was discontinued after the introduction of the 16-18-21/4. Maybe, the Tri Elmar 28-35-50 could be to re-introintroduce, with a version improved for the M8.

I have to say I'm quite sad that there's no longer a 50/2.8 Elmar - I love mine.
