I know nothing about camera bags. In Australia it seems that everyone has a Lowepro and Domke pops up every so often. I am looking for something that looks like a messenger bag but with some light padding and dividers. I am generally looking at carrying a Hasselblad with lenses and maybe a small 35mm rangefinder.

Till now I have used a generic messenger bag and just thrown everything inside, but since I have recently started taking my MF camera out for general walks I need something secure.

Any suggestions? I am more open to obscure/cheaper options. As long as it meets the fundamentals.

Just for the record. I have tried making my own reinforced bag with dividers and failed.

Funny, I would have thought Ozzies would prefer the locally made Crumpler bags. I have the "Ugly divorce" (one of the few they make with leather), but I don't think it could take a Hasselblad. One of their "million dollar home" series would probably fit your needs. The problem with camera bags is that they tend to be over-padded and bulky.

One option to consider would be to keep your messenger bag and use a camera wrap (a padded square of neoprene or fabric that wraps around your camera and is secured with velcro). The problem with wraps is they slow you down. A Domke insert is a box of padded material you can slip into your bag, it would hold your Hasselblad while keeping it in easy reach.

Artisan and Artist has a good range and they are compact. I have the coyly named Evans Walker which fits two Ms and three lenses in a tiny package. One of the larger ones might be good for the Hasselblad.....

The Naneu pro Lima is what I use for my hasselblad. It fits my hassie with 60mm plus an extra back and film comfortably. I don't own another lens but you could probably squeeze an extra lens in there...

I've several Crumpler bags, in different sizes. All messenger style and like them all. Will be getting the wife one of the pc-style messenger bags for her Mac. They come in all sizes, styles and colours.

I have a Courier Ware messenger-style camera bag and love it. The bottom of the bag is padded and it has padded removable dividers. The bag also has several pockets for storing accessories. It's built very well and is comfortable to carry.
