Never mind that I was an hour and 20 minutes late! Don't cloud the issued with details! So - finding none of my impatient RFF "pals" there, I went to the bar... (alone, like some loser...), had a few libations to drown my sorrows of having been totally diss'd by my RFF pals, and stagger...err, walked down South Street in Philly and with my cheap Nikon Coolpix and also my beautiful Oly XA (thanks to the extreme kindness and generosity of a RFF member who is NOT from Philly...) ...snapped off these pics using the "NickTrop Technique"(c) (Patent pending...)... Hence posting to the Technique Forum...

Actually, I should add, then I'll let this thread die... If there's any ambiguity, I am totally NOT angry with my Philly RFF pals... Just kidding here. I did show but was way late. My bad. Looking forward to the next get together.
Also, to all - sorry for posting this pics so large! Didn't realize this when I posted the links for them - last time I posted links to pics they posted as thumbnails that could have been enlarged, or so I thought... Guess not. Should have previewed. Any way to make them smaller?
Again, my apologies...

I think we were there from 1pm to roughly 3:30 or 4...

We didn't leave until about 3:45 p.m.; we were in a really obscure area of the restaurant, and there was a sign which said "Section Closed" for a bit. Could that have thrown you off?

Nick, first of all, I can't quite figure how you do this. Really cool.
Would like to have a hint, if it is not prying to much.
But, how do you get these images to post so large? I have never been able to get them anywhere near that large!

Totally - thanks. Even though I was very late, I thought wow, with this gang most people still filter in after an hour or so. I DID see that "section closed" sign and didn't even look back there! Whodda thunk? That was it... Thanks!
Sorry I missed y'all... Stupid "Closed Section" sign! Damn! Always a fun time...
Looking forward to next time...
- And again, this thread is totally meant as a joke...

Thanks! No big deal. These were taken with an infrared camera... In my case a modified cheap (but surprisingly well-made) Nikon Coolpix... So the latent image is infrared...
Everyone does infrared, and while I like it? I want to do something a little different w/o going overboard. So... in the case of most of these, I just apply a gradient filter effect to give it a splash of color usually applied the "non-sky" portion of the pic, tilted to wherever that might be... I futz around with different gradient colors to see what works to my eye and different mix percentages. (Of course, you have to shoot infrared on "puffy cloud days" - mandatory. Vertical comp to get the sky in, of course...)
Not a lot of experimentation traditionally went on with infrared because film was expensive and it's such a pain to work with. But digital negates all that... once you got your infrared camera, you're free to play - so why not? Do infrared macros (a couple here), infrared street pics... why not?
Take chances - some people like it, those with no taste don't. Whatever
Glad you like these...
And I have no idea why they're this big. I'm a little embarrassed by it, actually

Jeff and I did wander out a few times looking for you. At least now we all know where to look if we don't see anyone at the bar. (Funny though, Jeff found ME at the bar, rather than the other way around).
Nice shots there. Catch you next time...
I made a filter holder to use Kodak Wratten (Gelatin) filters with my full-range Modified Coolpix 950.
This is with a Magenta Filter, that notches out Green.
I just bought a full-range Olympus EP2, visible+IR.

I like the ones of the South Street garden and the Ben Franklin. Me and another member were going to make it to the meeting, but had a really rough evening.. every year that goes by, the hangovers just get worse...

@Al - not only did they have a "Section Closed" sign and it chained off - but you must have been in the back because I did give a quick glance and the tables in the front were empty. This was a somewhat "hip" place - could it be that they hid y'all back there because they didn't want a bunch of geezers with antique cameras scaring away the younins? LOL - that's the only possible explanation!
@Brian - love it!
@ MCJC86 - that is a hard lesson to learn me lad... I learned it after my 10,000th hangover of my youth... 2-3 nice quality IPAs or a single malt scotch and 1 IPA to chase... that's it, I'm done. Anything more the head throbs the next day. Oh, I could drink that in an hour in an earlier stage of life - and, in fact, I did... Not n' more... Not worth it, and it's too expensive these days to... Can't deal with the low end stuff anymore...

Brian - visible + IR? How do they manage that? Didn't know such an animal existed in the wild! Sounds like a helluva camera... As much as I like IR and am dismayed at the fact there's no more HIE, digital IR gets the job done and it's just so much easier to work with same effect and no grain worries... Interesting you used a filter with your shot. With digital, I don't bother with filters, just add them in post.

I'm on a mad quest for HIE still, and I'm not going digital, I've already spent enough on film! =D

Both Jeff and I told the bartender and folks out front that if they saw an old geezer w/camera, where to send them.
I hope you didn't tip them more than 10%...
Maybe next time we need to PM cell phone numbers. We have all this technology in place, but we rely on RFF and e-mail?
As some have said, Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, Question Mark....

Watch the RFF Regional Club area, you are always invited.
Look at the list of fora, "Photo Clubs", Philly is one of them. Here's a link.

You can always PM Jeff, Nick or myself. The more the merrier.
Hope to see you at the next event, or the one after that...
