DIY Monochrom digital

Not really sure if this is effective. You need software that doesn't do the bayer interpollation when you read in the raw file. IF the camera already doesn't do that. You get more sensitivity but I'm not sure you gain definition, somewhere the bayer interpollation is still done smearing out your gained detail.

might try this with my d40x with broken shutter (gives about 3/4 of an image size).

Coupled with my 43-86 zoom, this should be the ultimate M-Monochrom/Summicron killer 😉

Hmm, working daily with people who put all their heart in die manufacturing, I have conflicting emotions about this 🙂

In any case, if anybody cares, the Bayer filter is usually some organic, relatively soft material (see, for instance, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_filter_array#Manufacture_of_the_CFA). Unterneath is Silicon Oxide (glass). Of course when removing the filter, you also remove any anti-reflective coating.

$ dcraw -d -T -6 myfile.CR2

This will give you undemosaiced 16-bit tiff that corresponds to your RAW file. That's the way to handle files obtained from mods like that.

So I'd end up with a pre-war uncoated DSLR? 🙂

can you elaborate please on this.
I have a NEX-C3, and the debayer filter has been removed. The RAW files look great, and I open them in the Sony Image Data Convertor OK, but I wonder if I am getting the whole image, so to speak.
I don't fully understand DCRAW, and would like to but right now it has me stumped. I'm on a Mac as well, if this makes a difference.
