I am just wondering about the non issue (or issue) of scratching the plastic LCD protector Leica glues (tapes) to the camera body to protect the LCD. Normal ware and tear will scratch this thing. There are numerous posts on how to replace these pieces of clear plastic by using a suction cup for removal, and just popping the new one in. Sounds like something we would want for those of us who own the older M8 or new M9. Why not a kit from Leica or better yet, a third supplier for a plastic screen with a peel back adhesive strip on the edges for $25-$30. That way, all of this nonsense of scratching is gone forever. I do not worry about scratches (I black tape everything) and just shoot like mad (40,000 exposures so far on my original M8), so a replacement kit like this is even more liberating in that it would be one more thing I would not have to think about. Just shoot!

There are many LCD protectors available for Leica M8/M9, everything from coated glass, to floppy plastic, to rigid plastic. If its taken you 40,000 exposures to think about it, is it a real problem?Steve

I've had a couple of DSLRs with exposed screens (i.e. without a clip-on plastic protector like Nikon uses) and used cut-to-size "GPS screen protectors" which attach with static electricity and are easily replaceable. The plastic is semi-rigid and pretty tough. I got a pack of 3 for about $20 which is a lot better than the expense and hassle of replacing a scratched screen. Even though the cams I had both used glass instead of plastic over the LCD (a Canon and an Oly), the covers protected the anti-reflective coating from both scratches and fingerprints. Cheap insurance!
