I have this lens and like it quite a bit on my 1N. Unfortunately the focusing is broken.

What happens is that the focusing gets tighter and tighter as one goes from infinity to minimum focusing distance. At about 0,8m it gets stuck completely. AF will still work in the useable range but if the AF hunts and the lens hits the 0,8m mark it will get stuck and the motor isn't strong enough to pull it loose.

This problem has happened twice in the ten+ years I've owned the lens and I have had it serviced. But by now it's not worth having the lens sent away for service - I could just as well get the 1.8 nifty fifty as a replacement. So I'm curious if there's a DIY way of fixing the problem.

I realise it's a long shot but has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance
Philip
