Dear Board,
I own a 1DMK3, a 40D, and a Rebel T2i along with several lenses that featured image stabilization. All the lenses work with my digital bodies.
I was wondering if anyone had any input into whether the image stabilization works with any of the Canon AF film slr's? I haven't really tried it for fear of possibly damaging the IS on the lenses. Does Canon publish a list of compatibility like Nikon does? If so can you point me to it?
If there is no list what has been your experience?
Thanks in advance,
Tim Murphy

Yes. I just looked it up in google and since the IS is an internal part of the lens, it will work on every body all the way back to the EOS 650. It WON'T work on many bodies when the self timer is actuated.
From personal experience, i know it works with the EOS 1nRS and the EOS 1V.

According to the compatibility guide: "All EF lenses are compatible with every EOS camera ever produced, including the new EOS M series when used with the EF to EOS M Mount adapter."
EF-S lenses are a different story (see link)

Image Stabilisation has been an innovation from the film era: First it was implemented in a Nikon 35mm AF compact camera. Then later in 1995 at Canon with their first IS lens 70-300mm.
Therefore it works with all EOS film bodies.
Well, even EXIF data is an innovation from the film era: The Nikon F90 already had it in 1992, and several other cameras (most from Nikon) followed.
Cheers, Jan
