You need a Silvestri H. (I am still kicking myself for not buying a 6x9 Super Technika 4 when someone offered me a matched set (with cams) for $1,600. But I was a student and poor, alas).

I am curious about the 27mm too. I got one for a bit less than $299 new (coming on Saturday), and I am actually wondering how it would do in a comparo with the M-Rokkor 40 and the Konica Hexanon AR 40 (the latter claimed to be one of the sharpest lenses ever made up to what, 1981?). Hey, why don't we throw in a G690's 100mm lens, since that's like a 40 too?

Dante,

The 27/1.8 is a very nice lens. It is does not perform miracles though. The lens is sharp throughout the frame. It's weakness is the field curvature increases as aperture narrows.

If the lack of an aperture ring is acceptable it has two advantages (other than it's optical performance) - the AF is quick and it is compact (strangers don't seem to notice yours much).

Well, the focal lengths are different. Similar, but not the same. It makes a difference, at least to me.

Should arrive today. No, it's not a pancake, though it does fold up compactly, and the Schneider is closer to 44mm equivalent, but it's a snarkoleptic's proof that maybe more of us should ask Dave's question and think POSITIVELY about the answer.😉

The 27mm is a decent lens and makes the camera as small as it can possibly be with a native lens. Sometimes, you just need something compact. That is why I use it. It's the closest I can get in feel to a Contax G ...

Its a great lens for size and angle of view. Used it this morning for a job. But, it does flare if there is any strong light coming into the lens from front or sides. Consider a hood, or just use it small with that caveat.

I greatly enjoy my 27! Small, nice angle of view...
But I was tempted to send it back to Amazon... The lack of an aperture ring bothered me - had it packed up already and in the car to drop it off at the post office.... And I changed my mind.

To hell with the aperture ring, I just love that lens!

I've taken it out on day trips twice now, and it is small and very easy handling on the XE1 (when I leave the side grip off).

I'll only complain that occasionally I unkowingly touch the aperture dial (right near the thumbrest) and change aperture. Must keep an eye on that.

Same here, I tend to hit the dial and jug the aperture out of true.... either out of P mode or off the chosen setting. Annoying, yes, and one of the reasons I wanted to return it.

Perhaps some thumbgrip might help here.

And what I still have to try, if you focus manually and press the dial to magnify the view.... that might move the aperture setting too if you have a shaky thumb??

Aw shucks, I see on your picture that you got a thumb grip and have the problem with the aperture dial despite this....
