Do Nikon DSLR do video too?

Yes, and I think yes (depending on camera model). While not a Nikon DSLR user myself I do know that recent models, such as the D7100, have substantial movie capabilities:

I'm not sure of all the arcane details of camera/lens compatibility with Nikon gear, but in general I believe that the higher-end Nikon bodies have substantial levels of backwards-compatibility with older lenses. You'll have to ask an actual Nikonian for those details, though...

All Nikon bodies in production do video, and they'll take AI lenses too. What you really want depends on whether you want autofocus with Nikkor D lenses (7100 and up) and whether you want FX (d600, 800, d4)

I don't understand what is your real goal, if you have a Nikkor lens you specially like for video probably you are better off using a Nex with an adapter or even a Samsung with adapter, you can buy a NX1000 for some 250US$ with zoom and the adapter costs some 20US$, if you need a new camera and you want also to be able to do video then pretty much any recent Nikon camera works.

Most likely for video work the supplied VR (vibration reduction) kit lens if you get a kit, will be best suitable for videoing purposes that aren't on a tripod.. i'm using the kit 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 VR lens on my D600 and it works quite well! hand-held the VR system works.

On a tripod or similar mount the AI lenses would work though.. unless you don't care about how much it shakes or have a ridiculously steady hand and a wide angle. 🙂

what is the lowest priced one that does video with sound and can take my AI lenses? Thanks!

The lowest used price one w movie/video will be Nikon d5000, then d3100.
D80, d200, d300 does not do movie/video.
Used d300s, d90 will be more expensive then used d5000 or d3100.
D5000 will be a better choice.
Good luck w video/movie adventure!

FYI,
Least expensive Nikon dslr (w movie/video) metering w Ai, AiS, E Nikon lenses will be,
d7000, d300s, d7100
Of course, FX d600, 700, 800, 800e, d4 will do video/movie and metering, but w higher price.

I have 5 nikkor lenses, i especially like my 24mm. I imagined getting a body putting it on a tripod and making videos of my dad on the woodlathe and other woodworking and workshop projects and posting on youtube for our friends and family to see. I thought maybe there was a cheap nikon body I could use so I wouldnt have to buy lenses. So how do you meter without autometering can you see in the LCD what it looks like? Everything will be a total setup no surprise lightening or suddenly a golden eagle flies from dark to light or something.
