Do NOT place Leica CL between self and hard ground while falling.

Fell on my camera a couple of weekends ago. Sent it away to one of the acknowledged guru-shops for diagnosis at once. Verdict: rangefinder assembly de-cemented; ist kaputt. Nein; ist verruckt!

They have promised to see if anything can be done to salvage the existing parts and realign them in some usable manner, but I'm 90% sure I'll be out of the rangefinder game though Christmas. The cost of new replacement parts they quoted will be far in excess of a fresh eBay body in similar shape. And I haven't factored in labor...

Drat.

Anyone need a CL-specific 90mm f4 Elmar-C or an early folding 50mm Summicron, like now? I didn't manage to fall on those.

How are youre rips? Those beasts are pretty hard and all sharp corners!

That hurts ! :(

Well, hope that either you can salvage it, get a decent amount if sold for parts and get another one soon. Don't give up !

Sorry to hear that about your CL. Rugged they are not. Hope you're okay physically.... and phsychologically.

Ouch is right!

I tripped up a flight of concrete stairs in Boston and fell on an Olympus 35RC.
The top cover was dented but everything still worked fine.

"Excelsior, you fathead!"

Another CL bites the dust! :(

If they don't self-destruct, well, there's lots of "other" ways.... ;)

I always keep my camera in a well-padded camera bag; and I haven't fallen yet while whipping it out nor while snapping. I did drop a camera once. The bottom of a bag broke and the old Voigtlander beast busted into too many pieces to count. It hit the concrete sidewalk. It took me several months to get over it.

My closet and my CL get along fine---it's dork in there, hehe. :)

Hope you're okay.

Thank you all for your kind words. Could be far worse- could have a broken camera and a broken strong-hand elbow, too.

I'm over it; hadn't really bonded with the thing too deeply yet (only managed to put two whole rolls through it), and it's only money. It just sucks out loud that I won't likely be able to find and finance a replacement before Xmas vacation.

I also wish there were more choices in the category of "M-mount with light meter that's tiny enough to fit in a café racer jacket pocket". The integral meter makes all the difference for me, as I am simultaneously dyslexic, clumsy, and photometrically stoopit. One less pocket to empty...

Bah. Maybe I'll get lucky.

My condolences....Nothing worse than losing a favorite camera. Almost like losing a buddy!

About 9 years ago, I dropped a Canon point-n-shoot from above eye-level in London, at some museum near the Tower Bridge. It hit the ground at the flash, and bonced so high that i was able to catch it like a dribbled basketball.

9 years later, and I don't know how many hundred films, several continents, and it still works, flash and all. So much for allegedly poor Canon build quality!

I dropped a Nikon F once. It put a dent in the table.

Sorry to hear about the CL. Others are out there. Maybe something will pop up here.

Here's popping up...
So I have a CL body that I've been holding off from selling out of fear of regret, but I may be ready. Let me know by PM or something if I can be of assistance...it's a very nice example, sherry-CLA'd and all. Cheeers

I dropped a CP 990 two feet onto a wooden deck three years ago. Almost no outside damage, interially would not stop zooming one way. Still mad at myself over it. On the positive side, it is making some inner city school kid in CA very happy these days.

CL is a friend to replace. Might look at a Bessa T, but not sure of your pocket size.

I dropped my CL too, on the first day I got it! Kept it safely in my coat pocket, went to the store to buy an Op/Tech strap, went to the hardware store to buy some O-rings. All was fine but I got impatient and tried to put the O-rings on the CL while walking. Not 50 meters from the little beast slipped out of my hands...! I was fast and was able to stick my foot under it before it hit the concrete. Of course, it still got scrapes and some of the laquer came off but else nothing serious. I got away with it. Needless to say, though, I felt sick in my stomach for a while. :p
