Do people really use the Photomic FTn?

Sure, it provides the convenience of TTL metering, but, it is huge.

And the one I have reads 3 stops off.

I might just resell it, but, wondering whether it is worth the time to fix and recalibrate it. My gut says, no, resell it.

I use mine all the time (although my meter is accurate), and I can't beleive anyone buys a Nikon F for it's compact size, metered prism or not!

I used mine last night, shot a roll of tri x at a dinner with friends along with the 35 'O'
The meter is spot on. I prefer the F to my F2's.

I use a Nikon FTn, meter is accurate. Mora camera brought it up to spec ~15 years ago.

I prefer an F2Sb and F2AS.

I use my Ftn constantly. I haven't shot any slides with it yet, but my negatives look fantastic. The camera certainly isn't small, but the F just isn't a small camera and I accept that. If I want to travel light, I'll take an Olympus OM body. I think the big Ftn meter has a classic appeal (to me at least), my F really has character and turns heads when I am out shooting with it. I enjoy it more than any of my other Nikon cameras, and the viewfinder is superb. I will continue to use mine for as long as I can.

Non metered the F is not much more in weight than an FM.

I've sold off much of my Nikon gear and have been building up my Minolta gear but I still have a Nikon F with the FTN meter head which I still use. This meter is dead on..

That may be true (I don't have scale handy), but both the original post, and my comment, we're about the size of a metered F, not weight. It's all good though; I love my Nikons equally (F, F2, FM, etc.) 🙂

F2 with a DE-1 non-metered prism here.
STILL bulkier than my preference, but a nice feeling piece of gear none the less.

I went to the hassle and expense of having my FTn finder modified for alkaline batteries and now it sits in my camera cabinet unused. I'd much rather use the standard eye-evel prism and hand-held meter than use the FTn. It's just too big and bulky.

I replaced the FTn finders with eye level finders on my 2 Fs a few years ago now. The FTn meters were no longer any good and I didn't think they were worth fixing. A decent hand held meter is a much better way to go now. If I want TTL metering I use a different camera.

I have an "F" that came with the "Flagged" Photomic meter...it's not only big, it's big and ugly...I was able to find a plain meter for it and I'm so happy with it that way...
Recently found a black FTn Prism that works (and I believe accurate) but will not fit on my "F" body due to early designs vs. latter...
I like the simplicity of the non-metered prism on the F...I have plenty of other bodies I could grab if I'm wanting to use one with a meter...
If I were to buy a body for the FTn meter I doubt I would use it with batteries anyway...
The FTn came with the DL-1 light...anyone need a prism...???
