This is an interesting thread. My digital (aside of iPhone) is a m43 consumer kit that I got new for a whooping 200€. 12MP and now I guess well surpassed.
I was thinking about a replacement. Olympus EM10 refurbished bodies aren't that expensive. But at the end I am enjoying shooting film more, and leaving digital files to be it. As another member said, the iPhone acts as a great snapshot camera.
I'm saving the 500 for film, something like travel or upcoming college expenses. Also income is not very stable ATM so I am cheapskate and save up.
500€ gets a low season return ticket to Asia for instance.
Funny thing is that upon browsing ebay and losing a few (just about all) auctions and planning some trips that haven't happened; I feel poor. But haven't spent much!
And how long does it take an intelligent person to work that out, and ignore the 99.999% (or more) of advertising that deals with things we have no real desire to own and would never even have thought about unless we saw the advertisement?
Advertising always subsidized magazines, but now, with the internet, the advertising tail is wagging the informational dog.
Bill, I make better pictures when I have time to think, and when I can get "in the flow". It has nothing at all to do with gear, other than "simpler is better". If anything, all-manual film gear makes it easier.
The new DX AF-P pulse motor lenses won't work on most older Nikon DSLRs. Took me a while to find the compatibility chart, but it's here for download (PDF).
If you do sports the latest gear is rather useful because its in those areas of speed , both focus and frame rate , that the improvements usually occur.
