Dear people,
I recently purchased Bessa R3A and M-Hexanon 50/2.
Both are G R E A T and I'm very happy with this kit.

I got the R3A mainly because of its 1:1 ability and I have no regrets, this is an amazing view which I've never had before in a RF camera (or any other sort of photographing machine I had/used)

Still, I miss the wide angle of view.
On my Evil SLR I have the 17-40mm and a fixed 20mm, but I want wide on my Bessa as well.

Do you, guys, use less than 35mm on your R3X machines? and if so, how is it?
Do you use an external viewfinder (like the little 35/28 Voigtlander's), or you prefer the natural way?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

Am I way off the line here?

I know that the best solution is to buy a R4A body, but the lottery goddess has passed over me this year 🙁

I have a Bessa R3a and a VC 28 f1.9 - I use this combo a fair bit with an external finder. Never had any problems - you get used to moving your eye from the rangefinder to the external finder fairly quickly, although with the 28 you can zone focus if stopped down, so don't really need to use the rangefinder all that much.

R3a and the hex 50 make a very nice combo don't they?- I love where the 50 framelines sit with that body.

I use mine also with a 28 / 3.5 komura and its nice companion parallax correctable external VF. Also a CV 25mm and 15mm. you do get used to the finders.

The only thing I suppose is that if you are finding that you are using your wide more than your 50 then you might want a body with a VF that will cope with that - but you are right - that means $.

Using accessory VF slows down process a bit...
I need to
1) look to RF and focus the lens
2) look to ext. VF and adjust framing
3) look to RF/VF again and re-align focus if it's shifted or object moved.
but it only concerns people or animals . for still objects it's easier.
also (1) and (3) can be substituted by scale focus

I haven't yet, but only because my 28/3.5 Colour Skopar spends all its time on either a IIIf or an M4. I've been very happy with its 21, 25, and 35mm siblings on my R3A.

The only lens lens that requires an accessary viewfinder that I won't use on the R3A is my 12mm UW Heliar. Sod's Law - when I look through the accessory finder, the tip of my nose smudges up the camera's viewfinder eyepiece.

I don't have an R3A anymore, but when I did, I used the CV 25mm f/4 + finder on it very successfully. I find composing with an external finder fast and fun. I'd usually pre-set the exposure and focus, and go (at f/8 on the 25mm, everything from just over a meter to infinity is in focus).

I might recommend considering the CV 28mm f/3.5 lens and CV 28mm metal brightline finder. Both are really top notch and a joy to use.
