Do you carry two RF bodies ? Is it extravagant...

My current 2 camera outfit is an M2 with 50mm lens (I have a choice here) and a FED 2e (from Solinar, thanks!) with CV 25mm lens. HP5+ in both.

So... "the forum made me do it" will be your "twinky" defense?

Well... I didn't need one. I got to carry two rangefinders with me, one loaded with color and a 35/2, the other with a 50/2 carries black-and-white. And nobody told me that. Hmph... 😡 I came up with that one on my own.

Just kidding! 😀 Have fun shopping for more gear... and yes, say we made you do it!

I would certainly like to have a second body. 🙂
Me too--can I choose Naomi Campbell? 😀
Ahem. Sorry. Really , though, I usually have one camera with me just diong my regular routine(work, walk home, sleep, walk to work,work.....) but when I make time to go shoot I take several depending on what I have planned.
If I am shooting MF I only have two cameras and I take both--the Arax and my Seagull TLR. I load the Arax with the main film for the outing and load the TLR with some thing else. BW in one and coulor in the other usually.
For 35mm, I am still putting together a two camera set-up. Right now it's a Zorki 3m and a FED2. And as I have only 50mm lenses(so far) the dirrerence is the film I load 'em with. Once I get more lens choices I'll have to decide about wether the two cameras should have same film/diff lens or same lens/diff film

I always carry two RF, one with B+W and another with color neg or slide. These two bodies have 35mm and 50mm (my new 40mm Nokton sometimes) plus a 15mm/viewfinder in the bag. This is my everyday package !

1 with B/W, regular or C41 process B/W and 1 with either Velvia 50 or Provia 100. Havinf the same bodies means I also apply different lenses on both, but this is not the main issue for carrying 2 bodies.
My wife has 5-6 bodiesCameras packed in her bags/Car 90% of the time, but she makes money with her pictures ..... I am just an amateur having picked up the Photo-bug from my wife...
But I have come to a stage where I find some motives suitable for B/W and others for Color slides, I feel a gradual movement towards B/W though now that I have started developing and printing myself

I have a Canon SLR - 2 lenses, Yashica GSN, Canon A60. If I want/need I can add another Canon SLR body and/or Minolta X-700, 50mm, 28-70, 70-200.

Yeah I always carry two. Hexar RF w 35mm and Bessa R3A for 50/90mm or fitted with faster film. You need some way to reduce the number of lense or film changes!
Lenses for travelling for me are 35, 90 & 15mm.

Hi.
Just wondering how many of you carry two RF bodies with you on a typical shoot, maybe one with a 35mm lens and another with a 50mm or 75mm lens ? Is it a workable solution ?
Ijonas.

My RF/VF set is similar to Roman's: R + J8 or Nokton plus 2,5/75 Heliar, L+4/25, both with Fuji 200 or 400 or slide, or BWB00CN. And a Ricoh r35 (4/30) or Nikon TWZoom 35-70 loaded with Fuji Sup. 800.

For Tele I use SLR only.

Best,
Bertram

As I'm still in the photography pupa stage, I trying to stick with and hopefully master one lens on one body. This is of course impossible after joining the forum with perhaps the largest GAS epidemic known to human kind 😉

two extravagent RF bodies...?

My second body is a medium format rangefinder, either a 6x6 or 6x9 folder. Yes, it's an extravagance, but definitely a handy one.

I agree with Solinar. I like to carry my Leica M6 w/ 35 f2 and either a Mamiya 6 or Zeiss SuperIkonta 6x6 RF folder. Gives me creative flexibility. Since the mamiya lens contracts into the body, it's easy to carry.

A friend gave me a photo she took of me during war protests, and I had my Canonet QL17, my Contax G2 AND my Super Ikonta. Funny!

mostly i carry one body & one lens. lately the p and 35/2.8 (the 100/4 is in the bag, in case)

if i feel like working abit harder i add the 7 with 85 or 135.
i do better with one cam & 1 lens though.
no decisions/indecisions to make or struggle with.
if i travel i take 2 bodies and at least 3 lenses. (35/50/85)

I carry both my Argus C3 and Minolta Hi-matic 9 with me wherever I go. The faster lens of the Minolta comes in handy for indoor shots. Plus I've got another argus on the way, so I can mount a 100mm lens I haved lying around on it.

The C3 is definitely one camera you don't want to change a lens on in a hurry.

I usualy carry only the camera dijour, and stick the Minox dijour in my shirt pocket for backup.
Lately the camera dijour has been a Yashica GSN, and an Agafa flash cube adapter in case there is no light avalible.
Years ago I would carry one body full of slide film and one full of print film, or one with color and one with B&W. That and a Bolex 8mm movie camera. (yeah, I'm old)
For "once in a lifetime" occations I'll stick my OM-1 in the car too, but I tend lately to use it for things that only an SLR will do well (macro, realy long lens, intimidate inlaws)
Like any one my age, I wish I woulda bought (fill in the blank) back when they were only (don't fill in blank, it'll only hurt). Then I might collapse the lens and slide it into my inside coat pocket, to backup the other one around my neck.

I'll sneak in a plug for the Domke F3X bag here, as it was mentioned on another thread; I keep three Contaxes (a II and two IIa's) ready to roll at all times, usually with a 50/1.5, 21/4.5, and 85/2. Also in the bag is a 35/2.8, 135/4, a Zeiss 2-1/4 Folder, a Rollei R35SE, light meter, flash, and compact binoculars. In a smaller bag I keep an Alpa 10d, Contax I, and another light meter. I grab both these bags whenever I head out the door.

What does all that tackle weigh? You must be in great shape! ;-)

Anyway, I carry one colour one BW camera both the same make; either a Yashica 35 electro GSN (2 of them) or an Olympus 35 RC ( 2 of them). No figuring out what or how to think while using a paired combo of these cameras because I've changed horses from BW to colour in mid stride. Works for me.

I was thinking of adding another Bessa R2 to my collection. Am I being extravagant ?

Cheers,
Ijonas.

I have two compatible RF bodies - a Nikon S2 and, as a backup, a Bessa R2S.

Normally I carry only one for everyday shooting. Depends on the mood and whether I want the built-in convenience of the Bessa's light meter and AP priority shooting or want to be "pure" with the S2 and an external (VC) meter.

For big "shoots" (e.g. when I went to take pics for the RFF II Book) I carry both - usually one with Color and one with B&W - plus assorted lenses.

If you can afford a backup body - by all means get one.

But remember, the "flexibility" comes at a "price" - you have to carry that extra body! 🙂

It was more extravagant go with two cameras and dont use it. I normally go with one camera, but sometimes I go with two bodies, one camera with 400 Iso, and other with 800-1600. You cant lost the photo of your life 🙂 for dont go with the correct equipment

I typically take 2-3 cameras when on a longer trip. Having at least two is good in case there is a break-down. However, in typical use, I only use one and never switch back and forth. The few times I have tried have caused me to feel diverted.

I can see that it might be a point on using two cameras on some occasions. For example, when working with horses, one to take the entire horse and then a second for a head shot. If you do dozens of horses like that, you either have to have two bodies, or a zoom.

Apart from such situations, I see no point. It is always possible to switch film or lens if really needed, and if that is not fast enough, either use a zoom on a digital or take a (good) compromise, like a 35mm lens (no wide - no normal) and ISO 400 film (not always fast enough, not as high resolution as ISO 100 film).
