Do you carry two RF bodies ? Is it extravagant...

Nine times out of ten I carry just one body and two lenses (50 and 90).
To me the benefit of a rangefinder camera is still it's size and if I would start carrying two bodies and a bunch of lenses that benefit would no longer be there.

Does that mean I miss some photos? Sure - but so does not using an SLR with 2-3-400mm zoom lens.

Comes down to what you want: cover as many photo ops as possible - or carry a lightweight and small kit.

I am getting old and lazy so I normally carry only one body and 2 or 3 lenses and 400 speed colour print film on long trips overseas. If I travel by car then sometimes I will take more gear as the car carries the weight.

Even if you prefer to use the same film in both bodies,
you could mount different focal length lenses on each.

You will save time and have less missed shots.
Might even encourage you to use that "neglected" lens more...

"Excelsior, you fatheads!"

I may have the weirdest combo -- when I'm out shooting film, I keep a small digital (Canon S45) in my bag (often comes in very handy). When I'm out shooting my digital Lumix, I keep a small film cam in my bag (often comes in very handy).

Well, I'm weird likewise. I carry the 35mm film du jour with at least a 35 and 50mm as well as a small digital P&S (Oly 4000) for backup.

on Photographic Outings...which really should be everytime I go out...

Bessa L w/ CV15 and /or 25 - 100 ASA tranny loaded.

Bessa R3a w/ Rokkor 40 or 90 - HP5 +

Always have 2 bodies with me. On one I usually keep a 28/f2 or 35/f1.4 and on the other a Noctilux or 50/f1.4. In my bag I also keep a 75/f2 and a 90/f2. Then two different types of film, fp4 125 and either hp5 400 or Fuji 1600. Very seldom do I shoot color.

I don't see two bodies as excess. I usually carry the Bessa R / J-8, and at least one SLR. I wish I had two RF bodies, but now right now. I, too, like the color in one and b/w in the other. You never know when that scene will just scream b/w. Sometime the backup is digital if the SLR is out, but not often.

my 2.

I have two Leicas but have learned that as much as I try, I cannot shoot both at the same time. Now I take one body and one lens, whichever that may be, and live with the results (usually good). Like Winogrand said when asked if he worried about missing shots while reloading, (paraphrase) "there are no shots while I'm reloading". So if I take a 50mm and find myself needing a 28, I step back a block or two, or three 😀

body #1, M6 with collapsible 'cron and FP4+ for outdoors
body #2, M3 with Summarit and HP5+ for indoors
body#3, CL with CV25mm, drug store 400 colour neg film
small flash, CV meter2, 35mm lens, and 90mm lens in the bag with them

This is when I'm driving in my car to visit my parents or my wife's parents.

When out walking, it's just one body with one or another 50mm lens.

Day to day camera to take along to work with probably be the Leica IIIa and 50 Elmar once they arrive in the mail. There's a Canon bottom loader coming soon too, and that may support my screw mount Summitar which will be a low light compact setup.

I love having the choice to match my mood or whim. 🙂

Hi.

Just wondering how many of you carry two RF bodies with you on a typical shoot, maybe one with a 35mm lens and another with a 50mm or 75mm lens ? Is it a workable solution ?

I was thinking of adding another Bessa R2 to my collection. Am I being extravagant ?

Cheers,
Ijonas.

depends on the shoot. If it is far away and expensive to get there YOU BET! 😀

I will be going to the LA zoo this weekend, and I will take both bodies, one with color and one with B&W film. [I may also throw in a SLR with a 70-210zoom in the mix as well]

I would certainly like to have a second body. 🙂
I thought you had both an M7 and an M6TTL?
I do Vincent, but I didn't at the time of that post which was 03-03-2005, 11:28. I bought my first M7 in August (from Oz), and I loved it so much I got a second one in October for a fantastic price. 😱 My camera budget is shot for several years but I have 0.85 and 0.72 mag models and a fantastic M6TTL as backup...

My everyday is a Leica M with 35mm lens. My weekend bag is 2 Ms and a 35, 50, 90 and 135. I need them all. Fuji Neopan 1600 in both cams.
