Used Leicas on and off for decades, owing never more than two at a time.

Currently:

1938 IIIb (three months)
2000 M6 TTL black paint ‘Millennium’ (fifteen years)

I can't imagine photography without a Leica.

Wow, Raid, the sheer number of film cameras owned by this esteemed group is overwhelming! How does this information play with a discussion with the CEO?

There is surely something in these numbers for all of us!

Currently:

M240
1a (1930)
Leica ll
M2

At one stage I had thirteen of the things ... then common sense (and a financial crisis) culled the herd somewhat! 🙂

You could say from this survey that Leica's problem is that a lot of enthusiasts for the brand own cameras made fifty years ago and more. In my case an M3 (1961) and a IIIF (1951). Nice for us, but not a capitalist's dream. Cameras like the Sony A7 series and others are making inroads into what was Leica's niche market.

X2, And well thought out before you wrote.

Frank,

I'm very curious about the above rig. Been interested in maybe getting one, even though I already have 5 Leicas and too many other cameras.

What is the good, the bad, and the ugly?

Cal

Hi Cal,

It's a tank. Build quality like Leica M2,3,4. Elemental. Bright viewfinder.
I was able to buy this camera with lens for much less than an M 50 Summicron lens of same vintage alone.

Frank,

Just what I wanted to hear. My kind of camera: basic, durable, and extra bomb proof. I don't mind the extra heft of a durable build.

Thanks.

Cal

Three Counting R6.2

Three Counting R6.2

I have owned all of the M's from M3 to M6TTL. Could never see paying the price Leica wanted for the MP compared to a classic M6.

Presently, I own a 1958 M2, an M9 and a mint Leica R6.2. Do not use the R6.2 much at all, primarily because I prefer the rangefinders.

I am presently in Guatemala studying Spanish. I bought the M9 primarily for travel but left it at home on this trip due to the danger of theft I had read about in Guatemala. So, I have to ask myself why I bought such an expensive camera for travel just to leave it at home.

My next planned trip is six months on a motorcycle through Central and South America. And I cannot see leaving the M9 at home. If it gets stolen, that is what insurance is for.
