Do you know about a viewfinder for 15mm lens

Hi all,

I have a fantastic CV 15mm lens which is perfect along with my R-D1s for my street shots, but lately I have started shooting for some documentary projects, and I really need that viewfinder for accuracy.

According to my calculations a 15mm on the R-D1s is actaully around 23mm, but I cant seem to find 23mm viewfinder, the closest I find is 25mm viewfinder and I think it might not be enough...

Does anyone have some experience with a 15mm lense and 25mm viewfinder?
Does anyone know about a place that sells 23mm viewfinder?

I don't think there is 23mm viewfinder or even a lens out there, but you can get 24mm viewfinder. Panasonic and Leica both have one for their LX3, and Leica also have another one for their M line lenses.

+ 1 for the 21mm VF. I may be a little cock-eyed, but I think it is a better representation than a 24mm for the 15mm. The 21mm will ensure that you get everything in the image you want, then crop what you dont want. If your accuracy is so important as you have stated, this may be the best option. Good luck, and show us some pics when your done.

FWIW, theres a Leica 21/24/28 3 in 1 VF on sale in the classifieds on Photo.net for $350 or so. May be a good investment for someone reading here

I'm afraid that you've got it backwards: the 21 VF will show more than what is captured on the sensor by the 15mm lens on the R-D1. Your image will not include everything that you saw through the 21mm VF.

Bad advice, IMHO.

Get the 25mm VF and then you are safe.

Sorry for being coy earlier, but I really don't use a VF at all. I chimp much more when I'm using my 15, but I like shooting from the hip, and I love to practice "seeing" the frame in my mind without needing a VF.

I have thought about getting a 21mm finder for more serious times that I can't afford to guess and check. I'd rather see more than what I'm going to capture if I have to choose one way or the other...

But that's the personal question you have to answer: Do you want to get some extra in your shot that you couldn't see in your VF? (24/25mm) Or would you rather be able to see everything, but know that some of what you see isn't going to get in the shot? (21mm). OR get the 15mm "D" finder (but then no using it on your film cameras!).

I totally agree with you. As you said, I also love shooting from the hip and I use this technique 90% of the times, but now I have started to work on some documentary projects and I feel that I really have to be more percise in my framing. I decided to buy the 15mm "D" viewfinder since I do not use film camera.
