On the wall (in a medical building in Worcester we visited today) is storyboard about the Fallon family legacy. One storyboard that caught my eye, was of Dr. John M. Fallon (b. 1901. - d. 1951).

From his short bio:
A talented photographer, he created a collection of surgical slides which he called his "portable pathologic museum."

Hard to tell from the photo, but I am guessing he is holding a Leica III or IIIc? Can anyone identify? I’ll have to dig deeper and see if any of his work is archived. Would be interesting to see.

Per Grok:

The camera in the photo held by the person (presumably Dr. John M. Fallon) closely resembles a Leica III or IIIc. Here’s the analysis:

- **Design Features**: The camera has the classic Barnack Leica shape with a rangefinder window and a separate viewfinder, typical of the Leica III (1933–1940) and IIIc (1940–1951). The slow-speed dial on the front, a key feature of both models, appears to be present, though the image is not sharp enough to confirm with certainty.
- **Time Period**: The photo aligns with Dr. Fallon’s lifetime (1901–1951), and the style of the medical attire suggests the 1930s or 1940s, fitting the production timeline of the Leica III and IIIc.
- **Model Differentiation**: The Leica IIIc has a slightly more robust, die-cast aluminum body compared to the III, but this is hard to distinguish in a black-and-white photo. The IIIc was more common in the 1940s, so if this photo is from that decade, a IIIc is more likely.

**Conclusion**: The camera is most likely a Leica III or IIIc, with the IIIc being a stronger candidate if the photo is from the 1940s. The design matches these models, and they were popular among professionals like doctors for their precision and portability during that era. If you have a higher-resolution image or more context about the photo’s date, I can refine the identification further. Would you like me to search for more details on Leica models or Dr. Fallon’s photography?

Black so almost certainly a III as I think I see a slow speed dial, certainly not a IIIc. If it’s not a slow speed dial it could be a II. It is in a case so no conclusion can be drawn about strap lugs.

As a local lad I am happy to see a slice of history!
