Does anyone actually use Leica's OEM strap? (M-series)

I like the attachments. I hate the strap. Totally unreliable on my shoulder. Virtually jumps off. No grip in that dopey pad. It's a miracle my M6 hasn't been dropped a dozen times. The best Leica strap I had was the one for the M4-2.

I do - the basic 14312 nylon strap. One of the best straps I've used for small cameras - comfortable, secure, easy to remove, and floppy enough to fall out of the way when I raise the camera to my eye.

I have them on all my cameras, as I like the attachments and lack of stitched joints. But then I don't tend to carry straps over my shoulder for long periods, preferring to dump the camera in a shoulder bag when not I'm not using it. When I am shooting I tend to wrap the strap around my wrist and carry the camera by my side, and the thin strap is ideal for that.

I use one with my M2 - never had a problem and I do like the lugs / plastic ends - so quick to attach or remove. Cost quite a bit more than I was happy with but now don't regret buying it.

I use the original straps from the M9 and M7 and I like them a lot. I like the smooth feel of them, which is far better for me than the rubberized backing of most third party straps, and the metal rings and protectors are very well designed. I also like how flexible they are, able to be folded up neatly and stowed with the camera when its in the bag.

I am not so fond of the plastic shoulder pad, though. Although it works, I find that it catches on things like car seats, and I sometimes find myelf untwisting i to make it sit on my neck properly. I am considering the A&A silk strap, as it should be at least as smooth as the Leica strap, and has no shoulder pad.

Interestingly enough, I use the OEM straps on my (2) chrome M6ttl bodies and Domke Gripper straps on my (2) LHSA black paint bodies. Both straps do really well with all lenses up to the 135 Apo, even with the added weight of the Motor-M's on the chrome bodies.

Each has it's own idiosyncrasies, but each works quite well IMHO. What you want to make sure of is to use the "grip" rubber part of the OEM strap so no accidents happen. It's a personal decision. The Leica strap triangular rings work really well on the TTL bodies and no scratches ever appear on the bodies.

I love this thread! People have such passion for the small things in life.

I used to use one of the OEM straps and found it to be a fine and utterly serviceable piece of kit. I still own one with the script logo, but it goes unused in favor of an A & A strap nowadays. I don't miss the shoulder pad one bit and much prefer leather to nylon as a choice of tactile materials.

I have one, but I don't like it because of the rubber pad. It keeps me from being able to wrap the strap around my hand comfortably, and it never feels secure on my shoulder. The strap currently lives on a Nikon F that I don't take out very often. Domke straps for everything else.

I like the current Leica straps very much and I have one for each of my Nikon rangefinder camers, my Contax IIA, Leica M's and a IIIF. The mechanism is a pretty safe lock, they don't mar the camera body.....the shoulder pad could be wider but it works - any wider and the strap would look out of place to me. I don't put it on my shoulder but rather around the neck or in the camera bag.

I use the Leica Strap on my M6 TTL.

On the other two Leica M's I have a ARTISAN & ARTIST black woven silk cord strap. The camera is either in my hand with the strap wrapped around my wrist or the camera is in the bag. Only on the rare occasion will I hang it around my neck if I need to free both hands for a moment. I find the silk strap to be very comfortable.

. . . . . so I have two back up straps for emergency purposes. ;)

I also use the X1 leather strap on my M3. I got a spare when my X1 was replaced. Some people hate on that strap but I love it even though it's not adjustable. Before I was using an old canon strap that came on an EF I used to have.

After reading how much most people seem to love the OEM strap I thought to give it another try. Sadly, results were very much the same. I like the ability to grab at my camera at moment's notice and find the hard plastic rings add too much bulk, making it awkward to grab at the camera.

I am glad so many seem to like the strap :)

I had a "strap-fest" last night in anticipation of ordering some today.

After much fiddling with several different straps from various vendors, I decided that the OEM strap, while nothing fancy, was the best!

I just ordered two.
