Does anyone else see something wrong with this auction?

Just from the outset it seems to be legitimate - it is not a hi-jacked account - he is answering questions through the eBay email system and is posting the answers in the listing. I think this sale is for real- the birthday present story sounds weird, but who knows?

If the hijacker has control of the account, he has already redirected the mail and can easily answer through the ebay mail system.

I wondered about that one, too. But then I know nothing about what these cameras go for. Why not kick in the rest for an M8? Which, as we all know, is the best digital on the market today (except maybe a Hasselblad back).

Well, people exhibit lemming-like behavior on ebay.

I notice that if there's a high but reasonable buy-it-now pricefrom a highly rated seller, people won't bid because the initial figure is intimidating, and they don't trust their own judgment on prices.

But if a horrible seller starts the same item at a lower price, many will bid and jump on the bandwagon, because they think if someone else bid, it must be OK, because why WOULD someone else bid??

if i were you, i would try to get someone you know in NYC to do the deal in person. even if you need to pay someone $50 or so for their time to do it.

at the very least, you may be get more information from the seller on the legitimacy of the auction. if the seller balks at the suggestion, its a sign he is a scammer. if he keeps making excuses, he may not even be in NYC, which is a sign of a hijacked account.

another suggestion is for the seller to send you a digital picture with today's paper next to the epson.

just some thoughts. i would hate to get screwed for that amount.

I wasn't looking for one, just pointing it out to someone who might get suckered.

As someone who got scammed on eBay not long ago, don't put too much stock in Paypal to protect you in the event of a deal gone bad. They dissed me on a sale that looked completely legit until it was too late.

Read the fine print and follow ALL the rules and you may not get suckered twice -- first by the scammer and second by their accomplice.

I suspect someone tried to scam me this morning on one of my auctions. He placed multiple bids on my auction and then emailed me wanting to make payment arrangements outside of ebay. I forwarded his email to ebay then cancelled his bids then placed him in my blocked bidder list. Sure enough he tried to bid again but got bounced.

He's from Malaysia..
