I'm interested in knowing more about this lens, but have had a hard time tracking down images made with it or comprehensive reports because of the huge number of LTM Elmars around.

I'm specifically looking at the M-Bayonet mount 5cm Elmar F/3.5.

From what I understand there are two serial number ranges, the earlier one with the red dot on the mount painted on vs a plastic aplique on the later range.

Also, from what I've read, it's the same optical formula as the red-scale Elmar 5cm F/3.5.

If you shoot with this lens, or have owned it in the past, I would love to see some sample shots, and hear how you feel about its "paltry" 3.5 max-aperture.

How is its focus throw?

Sorry I don't have many pics posted with the lens.
I find it quite a sharp lens and as Malcolm Taylor said it is the pinnacle of the series.
As with the Elmar-M 2.8 it has the quirky and awkward aperture ring which is even more of a pain with the hood.. and you really need the hood because the aperture blades are located so close to the front element.

Elmar 50mm f3.5 M-mount. I always found it a good lens - less flare sensitive than the vI 50f2.8 and really good with close focus.

I like mine and it is my only M-mount lens at the moment.
F/3.5 is fast enough for me and with ASA200 film it can also be used indoors.
Flare resistance is quite good. So far I only had flare, when I wanted to have it and don't use a hood.
