I love the idea of the R-D1, a manual rangefinder with a digital sensor, but it seems a bit dated. Just wondering if anyone knows of plans for an upgrade to this model? Upping the MP would be nice. 6MP is ok, but full frame would be awesome....

I'd love to see an improved R-D1, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.

...Then again, my finger is removed far from the pulse of the community (and jammed straight up my....ahem....nose? :D)

Epson expected to sell 10,000 R-D1(s) cameras per year. Instead they sold about 10,000 in total. Does that answer your question? ;)

Don't see an R-D2 from Epson, but given that was a collaboration between Epson and Cosina, I would not be surprised to see a similar collaboration between Cosina and Fuji..

Mr K will release a digital something at some stage ... it's inevitable IMO!

If the X100 created the stir around here that it did, can you imagine what the prospect of a digital Bessa would do to us! :p

The main attraction for me was the manual wind and shutter. That's like the project we've been working on to make a digital capture to add to a Leica M. If one of these companies were to make something like this R-D1 with mechanical stuff and just the digital capture, I'd be in for it too.

I suspect that Epson's plans for its digital RFs is to string the current line out for as long as they can with minimal upgrades, and then to let the whole idea die quietly.
