I just bought what promises to be a beautiful camera, a close to mint Rollei 2.8F with Xenotar. I've been lusting for one with specifically the Xenotar lens for a while.
I thought I had conquered GAS.
And I even sold a lens recently (violating the always buy, never sell philosophy).
GAS never stops, does it?

It did for me. I had a lot of stuff. A lens for every situation. A lot of bodies. A lot of MF gear too. But, I hated over thinking what gear to bring any time I traveled or even went out to take photos.
Yes. It's like the "tyranny of choice" problem. This is why I'm finally selling a bunch of stuff.

Do you want it to stop? Why? It's fun. It feels good.

Nah, that just gives you an opportunity to get some cash out when financing. Nothing like paying off your gear over 30 years. :bang:

Using rangefinders helps. Since I use an M7, I feel much more quiet. It was a long way to get rid of heavy gear on the shoulder and to understand that basics is all what we need ; within no more 10 years I hope to be completly zen ;=)

It stops when you realize that the camera and lenses are really just tools like canvas, paint and brushes. It stops when joy of creating replaces the urge to acquire and collect.

substitute ...
substitute ...
Actually this is where alcoholics go to substitute , a camera for a drink , a lens for a drug . It assists the 12 Step programs , most definitely ... been there .
But the peace felt going out with your camera into the world and seeing it so much more fully through the view finder , is priceless , as the saying goes . Life is balance ... happiness can come with the simplest of cameras as you all know . It's seeing the beauty of the moment that counts , that fills you .
That said ... I await my latest Adorama order ...

GAS never really goes away, but once you put your priorities in order & you determine you want to make good photography you start to set your focus on the kind of gear you need to help you do the task at hand. You no longer want to jump at every new camera that comes along. Right now my focus is picking up FD lenses for my Canon kit & getting my darkroom in order. I would like a MF camrea but I can wait until the right deal comes along & I have the money to spend.

I just spent eight hours in treatment, at an auction, while my friends spent about $15K, I went for the cannoli, I took them, left the cameras.
I did buy a very experienced 90mm 2.8, but just missed a very experienced IIIc, black FSU tele, and black Leicaflex with sufficient brassing to be very cool. It was kind of therapy, when the prices got very high, I hesitated. 700 lots in 8 hours, they moved very fast. Free Cannoli though in the afternoon.
I also passed on three boxes of assorted cameras near the end for $10 total. Is that passing gas?
It was odd that sometimes parts seemed to go more than for complete cameras, I think a complete RB 67 went for something like $250, and a body with WL, for $150.
I think I will save this 90mm for shooting in sand storms or tornadoes, now I need a matching body ;-).
