Not having as much experience as many on this forum, but I am going to say that the equipment does matter. I started out with a Brownie Hawkeye, then moved up to 3.5f Rolleiflex, then to the 2.8f Rolleiflex. After years of shooting, I felt that when I wanted to achieve was a certain look to the image I would grab a specific camera and film and go. That desire is what brought me to a Leica, realizing that to achieve a certain "look" ie. period image, I needed to have a camera and lens that would help recreate that feel. Still have lots of learning to do, but I think that eventually and with some luck, will be able execute the perfect timeless image.
