Does the glass matter?

I read, year’s back, that the main danger associated with Thorium was not in the radiation produced, but to the factory workers who made the lenses. The polishing step of making a lens produces a lot of fine dust which, in Thorium’s case, is also radioactive. As you can imagine, inhaling radioactive dust, isn’t good. That’s why lens manufacturers stopped using Thorium when designing a lens.

I wish I had a link as to where I read this, but I don’t. Makes sense though.
