Does the sun really burn Leica curtains?

Hi everyone, I'm new here! Have finally registered after a couple of months reading the forums. I've gone from 35mm SLR to MF and now rangefinder in about 2 years and my latest buy is a chrome M4 with a 50 'cron. Happy happy, joy joy!

Now, I'm a bit concerned about this burning issue. Does the sun have to be "in the frame", or is it enough to just point the camera in the general direction of the sun?

Welcome Klas!
Hefty starting camera in the RF world! Your first choice here is an excellent one!

The sun has to be in the frame ofcourse, otherwise the projection does not reach the shutter. As stated, your shutter is in danger only at larger apertures.

Thanks Rob!

Swift and good answer. I've heard nothing but good stuff about this forum and from what I've read myself, its all true!

I actually played around a little with my grandfathers old Retina IIc before buying the M. I looked at the VC Bessas but the old and mechanical stuff has a special appeal to me. :)
