Well I guess it had to happen sooner or later. What an idiot I am.

I've been using stainless reels and tanks for quite a while with little or no problem. Normally trying a trash film on the spiral in the daylight to familiarise the loading (those wo have used stainless reels know what I mean, you load from the middle out).

OK yesterday I didn't do this and in a rare moment of madness loaded the 20 shot film (bulk loaded) onto the spiral, the wrong way, so it didn't load in the wire spiral guides, just spun up around itself. Had this been a 36 roll I'd have realised as the spiral would have been full (or not if you do this the wrong way) I'd have reloaded it correctly.

In a nut shell, one trashed film. Partially developed, OK in places but trash 😱

Use Hewes reels. More expensive, worth the money. It's hard to make that mistake you describe with them. Once I tried one Hewes reel I threw my others away and immediately bought 3 more. Hewes reels from now on for me til death.

I use to use an AP kit (plastic). I recently switched to a Kinderman tank (stainless steel with plastic top) and some Omega (same as Hewes stainless steel reels). I'm never going back to plastic.

It's too bad you lost a roll. But like you said, "Learn from your mistakes". I'm sure it was a freak accident.

I can't grumble that much really, it's only the second roll in four years regular processing, but a silly mistake regardless. The other lost roll was as well but that was a silly avoidable E6 error. I guess it's easy to get complacent.

I'll not make the same one again. The stuff I lost is gone so that's just tough luck, at least it only had about 20 shots on. As I say though, I recon I'd have noticed as a 36 fills the spiral.

Tony, that sounds awful. I feel for you having ruined enough films myself 🙂

Oh since you're no longer just lurking, have you had a chance for more film cassettes from the lab?
