Being the cheapass that I am, I bought one of these "replica" Leica M-grip from Ebay..

(not from this particular seller though)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Camera-Grip-for...ryZ29965QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It came in today and boy is this thing cheap lookin' ! 😡

The whole grip is plastic and spray painted black - and it looks + feels like it too.

I learned my lesson... some things are worth paying $50 more for. 🙁

that sux, I've looked at that one several times but never bid on it. Have you seen this one, a bit more but it looks pretty substantial and it covers the whole baseplate: http://www.photoequip.net/ .

Well, I wanted to get a grip with "stock" look. The design of GMP to me looked a bit out of place when installed on Leica.

Question for owners of a "real" Leica M-Grip... is the textured pattern on the grip a cut of the same material as the plastic covering on the M6/M7? Or is it just a pattern stamp on the grip surface?

update: I put the grip on my M6 and it feels pretty good on the camera. I'm sure this has to do with the leica design rather than this "knock off" grip. I still want to compare this to the real Leica grip though....

just took a pic of the M6 with the grip... the leather pattern on the grip is different than the stock skin of the M6.. oh wells

If I saw this setup "in the metal", perhaps I might be able to see the difference. Holding it in one's hands, of course, is where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. Take the thing out for some concentrated shooting and see how you feel. Aesthetically speaking, it doesn't look too bad from where I'm looking.

BTW, was this taken with the GR-D?

yeah, I'll stop by central camera this weekend and compare it with the real grip. I'll give you guys the final assesment then.

Above pic was taken with canon 20d

Hi,

I looked at the ebay listing and your picture. It looks to me that the one that is pictured IS the Leica M Grip made by Leica. I have two of them. They are plastic, but they work fine and are not likely to break... pretty sturdy. Having said that, I don't use them very often. I just prefer the feel of an M camera without the grip.
