Well-known
So I stumbled across a huge estate sale online that had a ton of obviously well-cared for cameras and equipment. Lucky for me they took absentee out of state bids online, and so I bid on several different cameras, including what looked to be a very nice example of a Konica Auto S3 with case and lens cover. After the auction, I got an email saying that I had won two of the items I had bid on, but I didn't win the S3. I was surprised, as I had put a max bid of $90 on the S3, and there were no other absentee bids. I asked the lady at the auction house "just out of curiosity" how much it sold for, and she responded (ever so politely) "oh, we dropped it and it was too late to notify you, so we withdrew your bid because we didn't think you'd want a broken camera."
Me: "well do you still have it? I'll buy it for the cost of shipping and handling."
Her: "Sorry, we went ahead and sold it at auction for $22.50."
Damn, and I've been looking for an S3 for months!
If the lens wasn't broken, I probably could have had it serviced locally for $80-$100. Damn you, polite auction lady!
But I can't complain too much, I got an XA with case, flash, all the paperwork and an Olympus OM-2n w/ 50mm f1.8 lens for $30 plus shipping!
