Just got the update from Domke
Looks like we have some new bags to drool over!

As of now, there is no details on when these bags will be released, or for what prices.

Visit WWW.DomkePhoto.COM for the concepts!

I'm interested to see these new Goretex bags in the flesh, which one has your eye?

Enjoy!

zippered pockets ? domke's big problem in Canada is distribution…simply put, it sucks. updating the bags isn't going to change that one bit.

looks like they are getting away from velcro - that's good !!

that web page (is that FLASH?) is horrible.

Would love to see Domke make a bag about the size of the Original F2 but with a slide pouch on the front side of the bag to slip a MacBook Air 11". I'd buy one in a New York Minute.

Having your laptop on the side of the bag that comes between your body and your camera gear can really damage the laptop, especially one as thin as the MBA. Wish bag manufacturers understood this better.

Best,
-Tim

I can find them in Toronto - Downtown Camera always has them in stock. Vistek never used to but they may now and Henry's, I believe, have them as well.

That said, B&H (even with today's exchange rate) isn't a half bad deal either via shipping.

Cheers,
Dave

I would think that other bag companies have "forced" Domke's hand. I do like Domke's but have since put my gear into an ONA Bowery which is not only the perfect size but also functional and quite attractive. Good to see Domke not going to just sit back and assume that their older models (while good) would satisfy today's market.

Cheers,
Dave

Looks like they've addressed my two biggest complaints: velcro and the old Domke buckle. If I weren't so content with my Ona I would have a look.

Wish you could view the insides of the bag. Really terrible renderings. My 4 year old could do better!

Not only that, but it's difficult to judge the scale of these bags. ThinkTank does a good job of showing their bags loaded up with 4 or 5 different gear load to illustrate the versatility. all but two of these appear to be roughly messenger bag proportioned, which is too much overlap to be the case.

What about the depth? Domke has their standard 2x2 grid padded case, but it's a bit too wide for a satchel / messenger bag - they start looking more like fancy duffle bags!

I wonder if they'll still be made in the US. Ona bags are made in the Dominican Republic. It's not about quality (no doubt Ona has good QC), but about paying decent labor prices and standard of living etc.. The off-shoring of cheaper labor is kind of a pet peeve for me. Especially when companies like Courierware (aka Bare Bones) use local Vermont labor and Waterfield Designs makes their bags in San Francisco, Tom Bihn in Port Angeles WA, Billingham in the UK, etc., etc.. Ona and ThinkTank (China) could still make a reasonable profit with their current prices even with local labor.

This is the press release I got. I'm not really in the photographic gear field, so I don't know why I received it. May be of interest to some of you.

The shape of camera bags always seem to shout "I'm full to the brim with very expensive things, steal me!" That being said, I suppose there is really not a way around it when you are making a bag that can hold a full sized SLR (gripped 5D, D4) with a mounted lens.

looks like they are getting away from velcro - that's good !!

that web page (is that FLASH?) is horrible.

Looks like they are getting rid of the velcro and going with a more involved/time consuming way of getting to equipment and that is bad. My main three bags are Domke. Luckily, they will be working fine long after I'm cold.

That's one of the things that bothers me about camera bags (that, and the bulk of the bag getting in the way, or the strap slipping off). I use an anonymous rucksack with padded bag inside. Not as accessible, but I don't tend to change bodies, lenses or filters much while I'm shooting.

I still am a loyal user of my old F4AF I purchased from a user here in the classifieds.

I do not typically stuff mine full of camera gear, a full F4AF is a beast to lug around.

YES these bags are still made in the U.S.A.

Edit: I agree the flash is "simple" at best, with spelling errors galore, I have a feeling they rushed the page for the CES show and everyone who couldn't make it.
any update is a good one in my book, actual photos are out there circulating the web as we speak.

The boilerplate for each bag is exactly the same! (Only the names are changed to protect the innocent.) My early '80s Domke bag is full of holes and the strap is all frayed, but it's still in use for my Rolleiflex MX + accessories.
