Domke Next Generation bags are on the way!

I love my F5XB It's sitting right next to me as I type this out. I'm not sure Id switch bags willingly. My bag now seems to fit my needs perfectly.
 
OP: where did you see anything about GoreTex? Would be cool, but haven't found any reference to it in the Domke info. I think the Ledger, Herald and Crosstown Courier interest me and like the idea of the top access zipper.

As for off-shoring... I kind of agree. It would be nice to see more domestically made products, but wonder if it's not so much a matter of it being cheaper in places such as China... Might it now actually be better quality (at least in some industries)?

I've used Domke products a fairly long time and loved the unpadded and less bulky design. Recently I have gone towards more personal customizability, such as adapting messenger bags from Courier Ware, who will produce one-off configurations of their core designs.
 
I think it is GearProtex, and goretex was "seen" instead.

What I don't get (and this is not an isolated instance) is what the 4 "series" differentiators are- I don't see any rationale as to why one would want the Journalist series over the Metro or the Adventurer, or... Yes, the names conjure up a "vision", but why is one bag a Journalist instead of an Adventurer? It all sounds so cool, but what's this mean for the buyer (other than self-image)?
 
the old domke website has always been terrible and this new promo page is no better
i don't understand how they can dangle this on for so long without any updates
 
I have carried the F-802 messenger daily for many years. Have even carried around alot of Hasselblad stuff in it. Actually a Hasselblad EL/M with Meter Prism and 350mm F5.6 Tele-Tessar with lens shade. Talk about incognito! Have four of the original Domke F2's and a few of the smaller ones. The Postal Shoulder Pad is a must, have one on each bag.

I do like their products.
 
Nokton48, a question about the F-802. Does the fact that the carry handle pulls up on the clasp bother you in daily practice? I just got the bag, and I'm flummoxed at that design choice, placing the carry handle toward the forward part of the bag rather than the back.

Good Question. Not at all, I have simply gotten myself into the habit of snapping it before transporting it by the top handle. But usually simply I sling it over my shoulder, so in daily practice, it hasn't been an issue for me. You can still access the two large front pockets even when it is snapped shut, which is good. I bought some generic inserts from Midwest Photo Exchange for a pittance and they fit like they are made for it. I am happy with mine and I carry it year-round to and from the office. Just as tough and matches my F2's.

Recently I've been using one of my F2's to transport around one of my Plaubel Makiflexes plus related stuff (see my avatar). By removing the inserts, nobody would ever imagine what is in mine! And it dosen't look like a camera bag to most Folks.
 
I hadn't considered that the two giant pockets could be reached while the flap is still clasped shut. That's a real plus. I do so like the old-world simplicity of the F-802, and of Domke in general, even though I think a touch of elegant engineering would have resolved some obvious issues, such as the location of the carry handle. I was leaning toward returning the bag. Now I think I may keep it. Thanks.

Good. I really like mine, it was a great score. Does take a bit of getting used to, though.
 
I've used Domkes for a long time and my only complaint for SLR use is the heavy metal buckle. I've put a few too many scratches in my cars over the years from flinging the top open. The new one doesn't look like all that much of an improvement. I would prefer plastic, but suppose they wouldn't have the insane lifespan with that.

I've never found a Domke shape that suits me for Leicas.
 
I love my F4af for Leica's, but I dont use the insert, I typically just toss a body or two in a domke camera wrap or a homemade equiv. and it leaves me plenty of room for daily carry nonsense.

Im pretty sure Goretex was a spellcheck autocorrect on my phone, I mean Gearprotex. I dont plan to buy into any of these new generation bags, but I do enjoy knowing Domke is still planning new bags. Even if they are similiar to just about every bag theyve ever sold, isnt that what makes a Leica M9-P cost so much? Tradition.
