Post traumatic stress disorder. Many veterans who have been in combat have it. It never leaves them - they carry the scars of war mentally for the rest of their lives. Sadly, many turn to alcohol, drugs, or suicide to try to "forget". Work at a VA like I did, and you will know it.

In 1999 I photographed some Kosovo Liberation Army veterans returning home after the end of the Kosovo war. I asked one how he felt now he was going home and the war was over. He looked right at me, and while he tapped the side of his head, said, almost inaudibly "here, there will always be war".

My Red Dot Glows For You
To Quote HCB on viewing Mcullins's work " I have one word to say to you Goya "
Is this like "let's eat, grandma" vs. "let's eat grandma"? I think some of us are confused here: is the word itself "Goya"? If so, it's not exactly a "word", it's a name. Otherwise, it sounds like HCB quoted is talking to a guy named Goya, leaving us in suspense as to which word that is (that he has to say to Goya).
The only thing that I'm aware of HCB saying about Goya is: "Not since Goya has anyone portrayed war like Philip Jones Griffiths."

"Pretty understandable, but that Cartier-Bresson quote; when he came up to you and said, 'it's Goya's war sketches'. Now an extremely flattering of course of course but, do you recognise some truth in that?"
