done ... again

Never say "Never", Frank...

I've just gotten my 21mm/f4 for the Bessa, and THINK I'm done with THAT kit...I might even sell off the 35/2.5 after I try some mix-and-match to see what seems the "perfect" bagful of RF gear.

Then there's my Canon DSLR...I'm shooting the 1st manifestation, the 300D, and will either upgrade to the 30D, or maybe spend the dough on a 100-400 IS L lens...dunno yet. When that conundrum is sorted out, maybe I'll want somethin' else....

Sigh...

Regards!
Don

After my M8 rush of blood I'm definitely done ... 'til the credit card recovers I'm on rice and beans!

I would like a decent tripod though ......

I gotta be satisfied with what I got...
I have some major expenses coming up, one of them will be a house, so for now it is about getting familiar with what I have and spending the little I have on film...

...although I did meet up with some RFFers this weekend and I really started to crave a film scanner and nice printer after seeing Larry's work and I would also like a OM-2 with a 50mm & 28mm! (damn you Larry!) ;) :)

I hadn't been bothered by GAS for several years, then a couple of weeks ago I had an excruciating acute attack, which resulted in the acquisition of a Leica IIf. That's not the end of it, because now I 'need' a screwmount Elmar 50/3.5.

What about the Benz Frank? I have to check back to see the status of that event.

I've decided to stay away from that temptation and pursue the high-maintenance mistress idea. ;)

Really, it's too rich for my blood. It would be nice, but I'm a conservative guy and prefer to take the fiscally responsible route.

Hmmm ... fiscally responsible ... that's a term I hear politicians using all the time Frank. I think you need to choose a more believable phrase! :p

Havent heard back from the seller. Think I was to slow. Wont happen again. I have been offered a brand new XPAN II with 45mm for 2800$, but I wasnt planning on using that kind of cash on it...
I think that this week some money comes in ... ;)

I'm done until I get back to work, so maybe I'm not done, just resting?

Lack of money sure cures GAS fairly quickly. I just got my tax refund yesterday, and I'm thinking of the dollar amount as a mortgage payment, rather than in terms of what camera I could buy with it.

Maybe I should sell something...

I thought I was done as well and then two weeks ago I found a deal on a MP...my plans have changed a bit. :D

I can't put the MP down long enough to list some gear I want to sell. I now realize there is no "done" but there is support for those smitten with GAS.

Good for you Frank!!! I look forward to reading your 'I'm not done... again' post in a few months :)

I haven't bought a camera in months, but last night I spent a couple of hours reading up on the Ricoh GX100... I think one is definitely coming my way very soon....

Frank S and joe back alley being done? It's like the young shepard crying wolf:eek:
You guys aren't going to be done untill you go tru McKeown's book:D
Personally, I will be done when I am six feet under:angel:

Okay, I'm changing my sig to: currently content and done for now.

BTW, did you notice all the good deals in the RFF classifieds over the last day or 2?

My GAF (Gear Acquisition Fatigue) kept only for a day. I got in a bidding war on an almost-as-new Nikkor-S 50 1.4. And lost... argh. Damn I wanted that lens!

GAF instead of GAS ... nice! That's what I could need now.
Actually, I have to admit that I am done for the moment (which will last for a while, I hope).

I know for sure that anything I perhaps still would like to have, is way too expensive for me now - you know, house (mortgage and maintenance), cars, family...
All the affordable gear I wanted, I have now.

So, you can say, I am "forced to be done".

Frank, you seem to have had just a little ripple in the "doneness". :) I like the realistic phrase "currently content and done for now" which feels very familiar. I was in that position some months back. Sometimes it takes excess pressure to breach the "done" seals... I was reading more about the proposed digital Pentax 645 and that got me thinking about breaking into the P645 system, and whooosh the doneness was breached and there was a whole new area to be GASsed.

I've been picking up other discontinued Pentax film gear too. Then I saw a great deal on a 21 Elmarit-Asph, then an R4A became "necessary"... all this aided by a double-dose reminder of mortality.

I was diagnosed with a mild form of very treatable prostate cancer, and I'm now radioactive by way of Iodine-125 isotope implants. Have the t-shirt too (with official UN radiation symbol shown below)... And then my mother passed away in March after a difficult 2-year decline. So I got to thinking along the lines of "do it while you can", and an earlier retirement from my business.

I think I'm done again now, though, or perhaps "currently content and done for now". A coupled 25mm would be nice.... some day. :D

Best wishes for your health, Doug!
And condolences on the loss of your mother.
These are indeed reality checks.
