I will also trade some snow for +38 - +43 centigrade with 30per cent humidity 9 months a year.
I wouldn't trade the women on the beaches though.Even the fat ones.
 
How can I possibly be done having just returned an M8? I've now got what to spend on angst (photog stuff as opposed to food which is where it should probably go) and the only thing I can think of is a CV 35 2.5 pancake (lens that is). I even been thinking of an a la carte MP (nothing gaudy) - film:eek: I think I'll try and wait till after PMA - Olympus are rumoured to be introducing the E1 successor )I know, its not RF but .......) :eek: .

Not for us. For regular folk, they were done after buying the digicam or the DSLR and kit zoom.

Admittedly, RFF is gear-oriented, and so for us who are here, the gear is a big part of the enjoyment of the hobby. Why do you think all those sponsors on the left of the main screen are here? :)

We all know just how many cameras and lenses one person needs to make good photos. But every single person here, including those who admonish others to "shoot, shoot, shoot" at every opportunity, or to buy film rather than gear, has more gear than he needs.

I think "done" isn't quite possible as long as our interest in photography exists. If that is gone, we're done.
 
I'm not done. I would like a superfast lens like a 35/1,2 Nokton or a Canon 50/1,2. I'm even considering a Pentax SMC 50/1,2 mated to one of those custom made SLR-M adaptors that Stephen Gandy lists on his website. I also think of getting a CV 15mm and a 90mm of some sort. After that, I think that I would just upgrade/trade from time to time. Probably more for the sake of change than anything else. I eventually want to get a 50/1,4 Summilux to pair up with my MP body. After that, I may be done. Of course, I need external VFs for any additional lenses so I can use them with my Bessa-T. I find those cute little things irresistible.

My Pentax is kit is done but I just need a decent tripod for it. :angel:

Isn't 'DONE' that closing statement that goes with a FOR loop in the finest of all computer programming languages 'BASIC'?

I doubt I'll ever be truely DONE before the closing condition for the outermost loop of life has been met..

I didn't believe it either.

... that is until I realized that I am one of the few people who actually said "I'm done" to video games (computer *or* console) after being enslaved to it for 15 years. If you laugh at this statement, you are not aware of the gravity of video games addiction.

It is actually responsible for more than a couple of deaths due to malnutrition, zombie-like behavior in many of our youths today, and a thriving multi-billion dollar industry bent on erasing the term "let's play outside" from our children's brain.

Now, I just have GAS attacks ;)
 
Do you mean "done" for life? I don't think that's possible unless you quit the hobby.

But I'll be "done" for a long time after I pick up the lens in my signature this weekend.

Sort of a Programming/RF Equipment endless loop....

I was kidding earlier about the Canon P, but many of us seem to have this GAS syndrome. Were I in a bit better financial shape, I'd be looking for another RF, a DSLR, maybe some additional FD lenses...
 
I am done with buying.

Now I am getting ready to sell all that I am not using...

Once I do sell, I may need to change my vote!

I don't have metaphysical angst, just some financial stress when the credit card statement comes :-(

And, NO I'm not Done, finished... or otherwise. Last year, I was hot into the OM-1 and found a couple of great ones. This year it's RF and a couple of Bessas.

Like Frank S says, we are never really 'Done.' Rather, we evolve in different directions; needs and interests DO change. Yeah, and some gear whose GAS has fizzed out, gathers dust on the shelf. So what?

Life is choices. I can enjoy it on the shelf, take it out, stroke it, or even use it [!]...
or decide to sell it.

And you know what, I have very little desire to sell much of anything.

I made that a dozen.

I have gear in many different flavors: LF RF (two), LF monorail; MF TLR; MF SLR; 35mm RF; 35mm SLR... and even a LF pinhole. Why do I need any more gear?

I'm done with buying gear; in fact, I'm so done that I'm thinking of getting rid of the gear that I don't do my best work with. I'd rather have 1 or 2 cameras that I work well with than 5 or 12 that I don't work well with.
 
I think it is natural that need and preference change over time.

However, it was two years since I got any camera gear (not counting film, chemicals, paper, ink, software and a densitometer).

I am currently on the move again, probably towards a second Hexar RF and I might pick up a film processing machine. I have definitely slowed down, but not stopped.

A significant part of my doneness comes from maturing photographically to the point where I am now. Nothing beats experience for discovering yourself and your needs. Many cameras have passed through my hands and I am left with the ones that I prefer most. Being "done" is pretty easy and comes naturally when you realize that you have lots.

Then there is the unhealthiness of wanting more and more, that I wanted to put a stop to within myself. I got a rush from buying gear, but I knew that the gear wasn't the main reason I was doing photography. It certainly is an enjoyable part, as I love fine mechanical engineering, but I needed to put that aspect of photography (as a noun) into proper perspective for myself, and put photography (as a verb) back into 1st place.
