when I ask such a basic question😱. but is it right that when using ltm lenses on a Leica M I can get the proper framelines by using the right LTM to M adapter or by using the little lever on the left side?

With a M-mount bessa, you will need a ltm to M adaptor for your ltm mount lenses.

I dont think it matters which adapter you get (as to framelines that the adapter brings up) since you use the frameline selector on the camera anyway.

I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong though. 😛

I just saw my mistake! Of course there is the llever on the top plate but I meant the lever on the left side of the Leica M's front

If you have a Bessa RF body, you just switch the frame line lever on the top of the body.

The adapters work with Leica, Konica and Minolta RF bodies. I don't know what system the Zeiss Ikon uses.

With the Leica, you can hold the frame selector lever in the right position with a finger, but it's kind of awkward. Easiest to buy the proper adapter and if you don't have a screw-mount body, just leave it on the lens all the time.

If you have the proper LTM adapter for the M, the framelines will automatically and correctly be brought up on the M when you mount it. There are different adapters for different focal lengths.

with a leica m, using the frameline lever is a pain and you'll get sick of it real quick because it doesn't stay. it's merely a preview lever that bounces back once you let go. it's one more thing you have to do before you press the shutter and it really slows you down. just invest in the right adapter and you'll be happy. the bessa frameline selectors, on the other hand, stay where you put them because that's the only way to change framelines.

I bought an adapter that was supposed to be 50, but brought up the 35 lines. I just folded a small piece of paper until it was just thick enough to slide under the preview lever and hold it in place, without putting any stress on it.

Thanks folks! Very helpful indeed. I have two original Leica adapters for 90 mm that are great for my Bessa R2. So if I get a Leica one day I'll have in mind to get the right adapters.

That has to be one of the dumbest things ever on a camera. I never use the one on my Zeiss Ikon.

"I know, let's see how this picture might look if I mounted a lens that I don't own."

What's the point? I'd much rather have a self-timer than a useless frame preview lever.

It's almost as useless as a depth of field preview lever, which makes the viewfinder so dark that you can barely see anything.

The framelever is for example very useful when using a Leicameter MR with one of the un-metered M bodies. Just switch the lever to the 90mm position, look through the VF and you see quite exactly what the MR meter will measure. 🙂
