Hi,

I'll start by apologizing for asking about SLR's here, but I figured you are a knowledgeable group of people that could help me out.

I want to shoot some with my fathers old Olympus om10 but the door does not want to open.

There is also some nasty sounds when I crank the film rewinder.

Any suggestions on how to open it up and fix it?

It sounds like the door might be gummed up and sticking to the seals. First check for an old film inside the camera: make sure the little dial beside the "OM10" on the front is turned to the horizontal, then try rewinding. The sound might have been a film in an old canister. Rewind until the resistance drops to nothing. To release the back door, pull the rewind knob upwards - it should extend about 1/2 inch (12mm) with a bit more resistance at the top as it works against the spring. At that point the door should pop open, but if the seals are gummed up you might need to give it some help.

That should get the door open. If not some more serious assistance is needed. Good luck!

after a good 5 minutes of winding and trying to pull the rewind know up it finally popped open.

The old film canister is really beat up and dented. I have no idea how a canister can get dented like this within the camera.

Seals look good, I'm going to get a roll or two to test this old thing out.
