Double delight

When I got home from work today, I had a double "surprise" waiting for me: not one but two packages had arrived, one from the Netherlands and one from Austria. They are my first ever acquisitions on eBay, done in the space of a few days from each other, and through some strange coincidence they managed to arrive on the same day.

The package from the Netherlands contains a nice little Ricoh 500G, but that's another forum. 🙂 The one I am most curious and excited about though is the other one. It contains my first ever FSU RF camera: a Zorki-4 from 1963 with a Jupiter-8. It certainly looks good on the outside, so that's a good thing. But the big question is of course: will it work properly? I didn't dare to try it out yet, with all those warnings of first reading the manual before attempting to use it, and I certainly don't want to screw it up inadvertently... I didn't even check yet if the take-up spool is included 😀 So first thing to do is RTFM (downloaded from the internet of course), and then... I'm really curious (not to mention impatient)!

There are three rules with the Z4 that you should always adhear to:

1. Never change speeds unless the camera is cocked.
2. Always cock the shutter before changing speeds.
3. Before changing the speed make sure the camera is cocked.

And one suggestion:
When screwing on a lens it helps if the lens is set to it's closest focus first.

4. Make sure the shutter isn't charged when screwing down the rewind gubbin.

And remember to wind on the shutter before you change speeds. 😀
I automatically say it in my head when I reach for mine.
