Topaz Gigapixel doesn't really "preserve the detail and sharpness". Sure, it uses what you've got, but when you make a large print, it guesses what would have been there if you had used a higher resolution sensor, and adds it in. From what I have seen, it does a pretty good job of guessing.

This is how I understood it also. It's the AI doing it's thing.

I don’t think we know if it does a good job of guessing, so much as it does a good job of filling in the gaps with numbers our eyes find believable. There could have been all sorts of sub-resolution detail, but we’ll never know better. Of course, there may well be nothing material to add in the original scene.

I have wanted digital M since M8 came out. M series are my all time favorite cameras. Fuji is great camera, just very different to Leicas.

I forgot to tell that I am planning to get rid of the Fuji and replace it with the M10. I use M film cameras and I want that same experience with digital. Also, I find it better to have less options. The simplier setup the better.

Nothing wrong with that... I think you should go for it since you know what to expect. I would tell you differently if you´ve never used an M.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean with this. I will most definitely adjust everything to my liking, from the menu. Same like with every other camera before.

I think what you will find is that Leica will present you with relatively few menu options, and every other camera manufacturer will provide you with an overwhelming number of menu options. For some reason, there seems to be no happy medium.

That's great, I like it. I have actually disabled a lot of the menu items in my Fuji. That is a nice feature in them.

And the fact is that once you set up your Fuji once, you never have to go into the menus again if you do not want to...not even to format the card.

That has been my experience with Fuji as well. Maybe for some reason you have to make frequent menu changes with Nikon, Canon, and Sony. There certainly seems to be a lot of hand-wringing about it on the internet. You'd think they were having to reset the time and date on their VCR after the power goes off just to take a photograph.

My impression is that most cameras offer some form of a quick/personalized menu and/or customizable function buttons. At least that is my experience with Fuji, Sony & Nikon. Never had to really dig into the menus.

This is true. But then when you have to do some changes...oh my god they are complicated to use if you don't fully remember what setting are there and where are they located! A week ago, I wanted to program one button for image ratio change. It was a real pita, took me like half and hour at least. Couldn't make it without the user manual. I had done that multiple times a few months ago. Nikon and Canon cameras have at least logical menus. Fuji menus are a mess, imo.

This is one of those positive things. Less options, the better. My plan is to use only 50mm lens with film and digital M. I find this limitation very liberating.

If I remember correctly he has already bought and sold half a dozen Leicas over the past few years, so buying the M10 was really a foregone conclusion. Given his prior experience with Leica, I am sure he will put the M10 to good use. I can't remember if he ultimately bought the 50mm Summicron he was thinking of getting to use on the GFX50R. If so, he'll be all set with the M10 for a while.

Yes, I have had a dozen or so Leicas between 2005-2022. Mostly bought and sold them because it made economical sense, but I was using them all the time until I moved pro and got DSLR's. I never bought a digital M before, the cost was always way too high. I got fed up with pro photography, got a new profession, and now shoot again with cameras I like the most.

I made the 50 cron deal while ago, but it turned out that the seller was a cheater. I never received the lens, but also did not loose any money. I did buy Minolta SLR lenses (e.g. 58mm f1.2) and I really did not like the manual focusing with the EVF. I think EVF's need to improve still quite a bit before I would like them. GFX viewfinder is definitely useable, but I would definitely not call it good/great. With AF, GFX was always very accurate.

I was actually thinking of NOT to get the M10, because of the pixel count. I have a bunch of files in computer and the GFX files are obviously better. I found a straight trade for M10, but a second option was to sell all of the Fujis (+ third party gear, but it's quite a PITA to sell all of it separately) and get the M246 Monochrom instead. But the Gigapixel AI was really the solution: I did multiple experiments, and it definitely fixes the pixel issue for me. 24mp is fine for everything else, except bigger prints, and Gigapixel solves that problem.

Is the quality of your new M10 files worse than the M10 files you said you had on your computer? Do you think Gigapixel brings the files from your new M10 up to the same quality as the GFX50R?

Lens identification makes a big difference as to how your files look. Also the DNG files out of the camera won't look that great until you process them in LR or PS. And regardless of whatever anyone might say, IMO M10 JPG files suck (I don't use them), especially if you're using un-coded 3rd party lenses!
