Hello there,

Been having lots of fun with my DP1 over the last few months. I know this camera gets alot of flak over its quirky and slow handling but you soon get used to this and learn how to use it to it's strengths. Anyway I wrote some brief thoughts on my blog and also posted some portraits of friends I've shot with it recently. They are viewable fairly large just to show off the quality this little camera can produce (easily on par if not better than my Canon 30D and light years ahead of the GRD I used to own.)

Anyway my blog is viewable here http://jamiestoker.wordpress.com/ and I would be interested to hear what y'all think! Does anyone else use and enjoy their DP1? I really think its a fantastic little camera once you get used to it!

Cheers, J

The DP1 is a photographers dream.......maybe cause I'm an old guy that comes from Leica's and the streets...but it really lets you work with no interference.....

I'd like to hear more. I looked at this camera back when it was released, but after reading DPReview review, where the camera got an Above Average rating, I changed my mind. While the rating isn't too bad, there just seemed to be so many deal breakers in the Cons list at the end of the review that I can't imagine that this would be a good DP&S for street shooting.

I think Ricoh has some nice offerings that might be better.

Ray....

for me it's like this.....
Camera at iso 400 (Tri-x)....focused at about 8 1/2' @ 5.6, (Hyperfocal Distance)...

Aperture Mode due to the HD setting....
Camera on wrist....walking and checking out the Theater of Life.....then...

look thru the view finder and click......screen off, no checking....

continue this process for the remainder of life.....The DP1 is small enuff with the finder on it to still be out of sight and not obvious and then it sill kinda looks like an amature camera...very important on the streets....ya blend in ...

The dp1 is a pleasure on the street....the IQ is fabulous and the camera never intrudes on your vision....not many cameras can claim that......The GRD 11 is a good camera too but it's to fast responding for me...I want to be slooooo and take it all in before I release.....

edit and crop before release.......this camera allows you to think and be aware of the here and now......

Totally agree but i wouldn't have felt this way when first coming from d-slrs. It was only after 'adjusting' myself to film + a M system that i now appreciate and enjoy the slower working but amazing IQ of the DP1.

Really is a great little cam once you get your head round it - cant wait for the DP2

I generally don't shoot single-person portraits with a anything less than a 50, but this is a good example of how to use a wider lens to do portraits. Nice shot.

It looks like the obvious differences between the DP1 and the DP2 will be the lens, slightly less Mpixels, and minor changes to body design. I imagine Sigma will work on high ISO sensitivity and other IQ stuff, but does anyone have a clue what else might be on the DP2 roadmap?

I understand it's mainly the lens and faster processor/software. Not sure about the less Mpixel and body design. I'll be suprised about the less mpixel though.

thanks, 'shooter. I'm not sure I get your slow vs. fast concept. Are you referring to write time? I'd rather that a camera was fast to use, and ready when I need it. I really don't want to wait on a camera to process.

I'm just comparing the specs on DPReview. The site shows .2 Mpixels less for the DP2 and slightly different body dimensions and cosmetics. BTW, I like your DP1 shoots, especially the B&W in Barret's LX3 thread. Nice work.

The camera is fast to capture but slow to process. It
doesn't bother me because it's more important to capture
with no lag. I love it tho, when I turn it on all I have to do
is check the focus wheel. With the new grip, even that is
resolved.
