Dp2 Quattro mid June according to B&H

I'm sure I'm the only one who think this: The camera is just unsightly. I understand the minimalistic design, but there is a point when it will backfire. I can't say for sure not having handled it, but it doesn't look comfortable to use either.

I hear you. But let's look back at previous models - original DP models were claimed slow, unresponsive, freezing during writes, their flex cable broke from lens extending and collapsing. DPx with AFE were claimed as inferior to earlier mods. Richard Franiec sold a lot of grips to DP owners because it gave some consistency to slippery and boxy metal body. People strugled with color casts. Merrils officially came with two batteries when industry standard were about 500 shots per charge. And people still bought this cameras to get onto Foveon ship. Do you hear me?

Yes. These are picture maker's cameras. When you are using them they can be frustrating as h!!! But when that print comes off the printer all that frustration just evaporates and I am totally entranced.

I have only owned my DP2M for a little over 2 months so I could eventually change my mind. But every time I print I fall in love just a little bit more. Right now I am not interested in the Quattro, but if it brings major improvements then I may change my mind.

I did buy a grip though. I have already almost dropped that slippery little devil twice now. I need a little more texture to grip.

The thing is ... the current DPMs have more than enough image quality for me and I've learned to use the cameras fairly quickly and effectively despite their well documented short comings.

As much as I would happily give Sigma more of my money I really couldn't justify such a move! I may just get a discounted DP1M to compliment my current 2 and 3. 🙂

A lot of people will buy it because it is so damned different though .... and I have to disagree with Will about the looks of the camera. I think it's beautiful in its own unique way!

Just watch when they put au$999 on it, that's whole grand less 🙂

That puts me back in a childhood, waiting what Santa will bring this time. But until then we have to play nicely with an old toys!

Well they did say out of the three dp quattro's, the dp1q had an improved lens design... 🙂

Not to me.
There are plenty of digital cameras out there that produce pictures that is good enough *for me*. 😀

So, one of my criteria in getting a camera is: I have to like how it looks and feels in my hands.

And I still have plenty of choices even with that.

No worries.. One of the most important aspect is how well u bond w/ a camera as well..

I had another look at DP Quattro....it seems one of a few cameras (if only?) having clean thumbrest, cleanest from what I recall seeing last years. All tiny buttons usually located under thumb and getting pressed accidentally, are moved left. Just like I suggested to major camera makers. This means several things - Internet has the power, Sigma are consciouss company, and new trend has started. Ergonomics means more than stupid megapixels.

Iknowiknow. What I say, instead of racing for pixels, high ISO and face detection manufacturers should have kept working on a cameras that don't get in the way. Tiny thumbrests loaded with buttons all the way, nah, that's one of reasons people don't stop using 35mm film, those cameras very often just have better ergonomics.

OK, this applies more to late cameras with huge back screens. When screens didn't dominate whole back of camera they had plenty of place to scatter buttons not right under thumb.

These batteries turned out to be blc-12. I called up about it and the claim is that the Panasonic fz-200 batteries will work in the Quattro.
