These two photos were on a tripod. Taken at medium resolution, converted in SPP and PP'ed with Color Efex 4 and Silver Efex 2 in LR4.

The resolution is so high, I had no hesitation to add grain.

You did Great...Looks Fab indeed
As for the skin Tone in the color shot i might just desaturate by a tiniest smidgen,literally a speck
to tone the natural ruddiness in the complexion ..though thats just me 😉
It really Looks quite fine on its own really


Love the background of both shots, so creamy Smooooth

The surprising news, Helen, is that I did desaturate that image a bit--and more than just a speck! 😱

I tried playing with the skin color in Perfect Portrait and got slightly better results, but my copy appears to be corrupted and I cannot save any image I get with it.

one of the portraits on luminous landscapes basically convinced me the dp3m is the best digital camera ever made. if they do a minor update to the 1 and 2, well specifically the 2, to bring it's color response in line with the 3m, I may no longer be able to hold out.

I appreciate the close focus and magnification of the 3m but I just feel like it might be too tight for me.
 
It's pretty versatile.....I use this focal a bit more than its siblings.

I find that the DP3M has a different color rendition than the other Merrills...and maybe it's just me, that I've always preferred a short tele, but I use the DP3M 80% of the time.

Me too. I used to love the Leica 75/2 summicron and the CV 75/2.5, both really excellent lenses, for just that reason.

Been getting my 75 through the C Sonnar on the X-Pro1 over the past year, but when I saw this DP3M come out with a 300 euro rebate in France, I couldn't resist.

Really wish they would have a wider angle on the DP1M, though.
 
Nice shots Jon and Rich. Jon I like the b&w shot the best. Rich how close were u on that flower. When I first heard the dp3m could only go 1:3, I was going hmmmmm... I was really hoping for 1:2 at least for this type of lens, but as I thought about it.. With this level of detail... That flower is the one I like the best. I need a sale on that dp3m. Come on 799. Jon already bought his on sale in France.

The thing that has impressed me most about the images from the Merrill cameras is the way they show detail ... it's there in abundance but it's not the type that makes your eyes bleed. I generally find digital images with this much detail in them a real turn off and a distraction from the over all image itself.

I suspect some pixie dust has been involved ... possibly smuggled out of Solms when they finished making the M8 and had a little left over. 😀
 
Actually Keith I think you do have to be careful with the DP3M when photographing skin. It has a kind of microscopic detail (read pores and follicles) that makes Jeff Goldblum's transition to the fly look pretty.

The smoothing function in OnOne's Perfect Portrait might one day become necessary!

Alternately, a little camera shake would do the trick!
 
wow 😱, great...what a bet from sigma!!!

I have on the post a dp2 merrill....i was about to buy me a fuji xe1, but naaaaa i couldn´t i have to keep true to my beliefs and sigma dp series are the best 😀

It's quite an achievment ... these little cameras seem to be gathering some momentum of late. The DP3M was a smart move ... the 75mm equivalent lens was a master stroke in some ways and has totally set them aside from the other point and shoot brigade!

not to mention the honkin' large non-retractable lens!
(relax, it's actually not that big, but certainly big enough to breach Section 35 of the P&S Code😀).
 
My original problem w/ the 75 fov is that for macro work I like to stand off more so 90 to 200 macro lenses are what I am used to and 75 a more normal usage lens w/ faster aperture. Over time I have slowly come around... But I still wish the dp3m was a 90 fov 😀.
