My original problem w/ the 75 fov is that for macro work I like to stand off more so 90 to 200 macro lenses are what I am used to and 75 a more normal usage lens w/ faster aperture. Over time I have slowly come around... But I still wish the dp3m was a 90 fov.
Gary
21-45-90 would have a much higher drool factor in my book than 28-45-75
There was sun today and spring flowers are out, but I had to work inside all day :bang:

Nice shots Jon and Rich. Jon I like the b&w shot the best. Rich how close were u on that flower. When I first heard the dp3m could only go 1:3, I was going hmmmmm... I was really hoping for 1:2 at least for this type of lens, but as I thought about it.. With this level of detail... That flower is the one I like the best. I need a sale on that dp3m. Come on 799. Jon already bought his on sale in France.
Gary
Gary......on the jade flower shot I was at MFD (@ 9") away. I know it's 1:3, but it seemed "close enough". Autofocus on this camera is pretty accurate.
This bougainvillea shot was at @ 9" away also.....

I am thinking of getting the Canon 250D close up lens and giving it a shot. What do you think?

In terms of color accuracy and micro- detail, I would be surprised it could come close. But having a 100-200mm macro lens means better ability to work w/ the subject as well, even w/ a 1:2 ratio.
Thanks for the update. 9 inches not too bad though. The new shot is nice.

Lol. When u said that I was picturing in my mind... U come home from work and your Merrill's are sitting outside because the other cameras kicked them out of the house.

love these images. the level of detail is fantastic, as is the unique--from p&s perspective--FL. i cant help thinking though that this particluar camera, given its macro and portrait abilities, cries out for an optional, attachable, articulating evf...

I think I could use it too... Actually I'm quite certain of it. I wonder how good AF is without a tripod.

Been using it quite a bit the last couple of days, though the weather has been ugly overcast.
At macro distance, the AF occasionally has a great deal of trouble locking on to the nearest part of the scene and tends to try to lock on the background. Mindful of the fact that it is CDAF, I've tried to focus on edges and high contrast areas. Sun would probably help a lot. Problems with AF lead me numerous times to switch to MF, which at macro distance and smaller apertures can be cumbersome hand held because of minute camera shake that changes the POF.

Yes, that's what I was afraid of. Especially as I prefer shadow for my kind of work, and many times it's impossible to MF because of the strange positions of motifs. When I was using M6 I had to pass on many photos I can now take.
I'm guessing DP3m PQ is probably much better than DP2m with closeup lense AML-2. I wonder if anyone used both and can compare?

The same thing is going to happen to u Keith... Come home one day and the Merrill's will be sitting outside because the d700 was jealous
I wish Sigma would hurry up and drop the price of the camera down to 799 like their other dp Merrill's. Jon already bought his at the discounted price.
I have now come full circle and plan to get one as well.

More shots with the DP3M.
There wasn't enough light today to shoot at ISO 100 at f/8 and handhold, so that's why the macro shots have thinner depth of field than I would like.
For very tight face portraits, I find the DP3M is really too sharp, and it makes sense to use thin DOF to soften the skin a little.

The files from the Foveon X3 really have their own look and it is a great one. I hope Sigma will keep working on this technology. The Foveon X3 really is large step from the previous generation, but there is work to be done. If sigma could pair the X3 with some nice 35/1.4 lens I may not manage to resist

One thing I really love about the XF3 Foveon sensor, that seems to distinguish it from other sensors, is that the mute colors are truly mute, while the saturated colors are lusciously saturated, all in the same frame. The photos of the woman in the jacket above are an excellent demonstration.

This one is from a demo of farmworkers that I ran into while doing errands.
Really happy that the AF worked, and worked fast enough to get the shot.

Finally, a PP'ed bicycle bell. As I mentioned earlier, I really dig the way the high resolution of the DPMs combine with grain simulations in post.
