DPReview review of GF-1

My EVF is in Nevada, so I don't think I'll have it for the weekend. Bummer.

A couple of thoughts on the GF1 so far: I really like the heft of it. It is about 100 grams lighter than the G1, but somehow it feels heavier. Not too heavy, of course (@350gm w/battery and card, w/o lens). Aesthetically, I really like the absence of the viewfinder/flash hump. A worrying soul might have cause for concern after examining the intricate pop up flash on the GF1, but I don't use a lot of flash, so i'm not going to fret.

How can they give highly recommended to camera with such a fatal cons:
  • Dynamic range and high ISO output not quite as good as best in class (including Olympus E-P1)
  • JPEG output nowhere near as good as it could be - shoot raw for best results
As a Fuji S5 user all I can say is no thank you and I hope that there will be Fuji micro 4/3 camera or at least micro 4/3 with Fuji Super CCD sensor..

Yeah, that's silly--unless you're shooting for billboards or fashion magazines, these cameras are clearly more than adequate in terms of IQ. Hell, my 6MP R-D1 continues to give me amazing photos.

I am looking forward to sensor improvement in this format, though--should be interesting to see what directions they innovate in. It's a great time to be into photography. If you have a source of income, that is.
